Assistant Controller

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support our manufacturing and distribution operations in Sauget, IL. This role will focus heavily on inventory and cost accounting, while also contributing to financial reporting, ERP system enhancements, and broader accounting operations. The Assistant Controller will partner closely with the Controller and cross-functional leaders, gaining exposure to strategic finance initiatives and playing a key role in developing a robust financial infrastructure for continued growth.

Key Responsibilities


  • Manage inventory and cost accounting processes, including valuation, reconciliations, and margin reporting.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for copper raw materials, WIP, and finished goods across multiple facilities.
  • Analyze inventory variances and provide actionable insights for operations and finance leadership.
  • Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams to ensure data integrity, costing accuracy, and internal control compliance.
  • Support physical inventory counts, reconciliations, and related financial reporting.
  • Partner with the Controller to ensure accurate accounting for inventory and COGS.
  • Serve as a key liaison during the ERP system implementation (Microsoft Dynamics 365), supporting data accuracy, enhancements, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Support the month-end close process to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation schedules and capital project accounting.
  • Support corporate internal audits, providing documentation and resolving audit requests.
  • Document and maintain accounting policies and procedures and ensure compliance with tax and corporate requirements.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
  • Partner with the Controller on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Provide financial insights to operations leadership to drive cost optimization and business performance.
  • Participate in special projects, system upgrades, and process improvement initiatives as needed.



Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Strong expertise in inventory and cost accounting required.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems required; Microsoft Dynamics 365 highly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Power BI or other reporting tools a plus.
  • Demonstrated analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and take on expanding responsibilities as the business grows.
