Background:

This position is accountable for all aspects of material handling, shipping, and yard maintenance. Ensures that all orders received in the Shipping Department are properly packaged, loaded, and shipped in a timely manner. Coordinates the pick-up and delivery of material to and from outside vendors and customers. Works with customers and vendors.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage all stock including the following:
  • Maintain inventory; record accuracy
  • Ensure conformity of all Shipping procedures
  • Ensure proper protection of company inventories
  • Oversee all Shipping functions
  • Hold subordinates accountable to required performances
  • Interface with Procurement, Project management, and sales and inform them or orders that are incomplete
  • Serves as coordinator with Production Supervisors on orders that are coming in and going out
  • Provide adequate training and support for all shipping personnel
  • Other work as assigned by Management
  • Safety - Commitment to safety while on shop floor and throughout entirety of all projects, including the PPE mandatory compliance
  • Lean - Engage in and lead continuous improvement exercises for the engineering team to ensure we are getting work to the shop floor in the right amount of time
  • Quality - Facilitate a cross-functional team to investigate, root cause, and implement corrective actions for any non-conformances
  • Delivery - Releasing work to the shop floor in a timely manner
  • Team - Collaborate with the shop floor (welders/assemblers/machinists) to ensure the following:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Be able to enforce personnel policies in a positive manner.
  • Ability to motivate people, foster teamwork, give instructions and training, organize and prioritize work, and make quick and precise decisions.
  • Have advanced experience and knowledge of material flow through a large fabrication/machine shop
  • Have a willingness to do what it takes to run or support the plant operations
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel and management, vendors and customers.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with team members, vendors, and customers
  • Possess interpersonal communication and problem solving skills
  • Be able to establish and maintain trust, unity, and partnering with management, team members and customers
  • Be a strong advocate of the company vision and mission statements
  • Be a strong advocate of Continuous Improvement/Lean mindset
  • Ability to produce reports that are well organized, clearly stated, and concise in a timely manner.
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 49 lbs.
  • Ability to operate and maneuver a variety of equipment including large and small lifts and cranes in tight positions
  • Have demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Have excellent team player skills
  • Have knowledge of shipping procedures and how the freight industry works
  • Have a knowledge of local motor vehicle codes referring to freight transportation
  • Have good understanding of computers and inventory programs
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Be able to work in all weather conditions in and outside the shop

Minimum Requirements: High school education or GED preferred. Three to five years Material/Inventory Control experience.

Essential Mental Functions:

Requires working under stressful conditions. Should be able to communicate in a professional manner with all levels of organizations and react favorably in all situations. Is frequently called upon to handle difficult situations. Requires public contact and excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner. Should be able to favorably resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position.

Essential Physical Functions:

Must be able to work odd hours/schedule. Must be able to lift 49 lbs. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment, and machinery, i.e. forklift, truck, cranes. Requires normal range of hearing and vision to operate machinery, and to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. May require working overtime.

Safety Requirements:

  • Should not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
  • Should be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the employer's safety policies and rules
  • Be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.

Equipment Used (but not limited to): Computer and related software, fax, copier, forklifts, cranes, trucks

Availability:

Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determines in the employer's sole discretion.

Must be available and willing to work overtime as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs

Travel: Must be available and willing to travel as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Working Conditions: Works in office environments 50% of the time, outside in typical fabrication shops surrounding 50% of the time. Occasionally called to work overtime. Working conditions may vary according to weather. Requires ability to work in heat and cold.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises a crew of 4 or more people.
