About the Team/Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate to join our Corporate Development team. This role is central to our inorganic growth strategy, supporting identification, evaluation, and execution of strategic mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships. You will report to the Senior Manager, M&A and Integrations and work with cross-functional teams across all phases of the M&A lifecycle. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands on, end-to-end M&A experience and exposure to multiple business lines, functional areas, and company leadership.

How you'll make an impact

  • Deal Sourcing and Pipeline Management:

    • Support identification of potential acquisition targets, strategic partnerships, and investment opportunities that align with the company's strategic growth objectives.

    • Conduct market research to identify trends and insights that can be shared with functional stakeholders.

  • Financial Analysis and Valuation:

    • Develop and maintain complex financial models, including DCF, LBO, and accretion/dilution analyses.

    • Conduct valuation analyses of target companies and prepare detailed financial projections and pro forma analyses to support business cases.

  • Transaction Evaluation:

    • Support due diligence activities by coordinating with internal teams (Finance, Legal, Operations, etc.) and external advisors i.e. manage diligence request tracker, facilitate deep dives, develop pre and post close project plans, identify key execution risks and deal assumptions.

    • Support development of presentations and reports for senior leadership outlining strategic rationale, financial analyses, and key findings.

  • Post-Merger Integration:

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop detailed integration plans.

    • Track execution of integration workstreams and provide hands on support to solve problems or remove blockers as they arise.

    • Monitor and track the realization of synergy targets and deal KPIs.

  • Ad-Hoc Projects:

    • Support other corporate development initiatives and strategic projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in investment banking, corporate development, private equity, management consulting, or a related field. Fin Tech sector and Payments expertise preferred but not required.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Quantitative, Economics, or a related field. An advanced degree is a plus.

  • Must be within driving distance to our HQ in Portland, ME

Experience you'll bring

  • Financial Modeling: Strong analytical skills and demonstrated experience creating deal models.

  • M&A Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of the M&A processes, especially valuation analysis and diligence activities.

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.

  • Business Awareness: Awareness of cross-functional business operations and processes.

  • Project Management: Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines.

  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with various personalities and styles in a professional environment.

  • Emotional Intelligence: Understand impacts of your actions on others and able to connect and build relationships with stakeholders at various levels.

  • Characteristics: Proactive, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and a strong work ethic.

  • Flexibility on working hours - global nature of the work may require occasional early morning or late evening calls.

  • Willingness to travel based on project needs (<10%).

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
