Position Summary: Finance Manager - NA Specialty Companies plans and leads financial and business performance analysis activities and special projects for the North American Specialty Company. Leads a team in evaluating volume and margin enhancement opportunities and operational efficiencies as well as analyzing expense trends to promote sound decision making amongst company leadership. Coordinates and reviews the creation of standard reports, templates and other tools as well as provides valuable insights to help derive earnings enhancement initiatives. Assists the field with the development and continual review of standard costs and production variance analyses. Assists the home office Specialty Company finance team with the timely and accurate completion of period-end results analysis and management reporting. Contributes to the development of the companies' budgeting, financial analysis activities and adherence to organizational financial policies. Provides financial insight and decision support for the leadership team on all financial and operational matters.
What you will do:
Key advisor to Specialty Company operational and business leadership. Leads the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities and procedures relating to financial management, budgeting and accounting. Leads and facilitates the performance assessment strategy which includes developing and implementing the appropriate metrics, benchmarks, and reporting necessary to evaluate business unit performance on a divisional and business unit level. Assists with critical finance function tasks including period-end close and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) development based on insights gathered from special projects and other financial performance analyses. Reviews and analyzes financial results and provides insights to Specialty Company leadership. Manages and reviews reporting prepared by the team. Supports the organization's strategic planning initiatives, assisting with M&A and other investment and growth activities. Conducts corporate benchmark reporting to compare company / divisional operations. Provides interpretation of financial policies, governmental legislation, accounting theory, and customer financial regulations. Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits. Accountable for forecasting, annual budgeting and long range planning for the business unit and/or certain divisions. Oversees capital spending and projects and provides regular updates to Specialty Company leadership. Evaluates business trends and clearly and concisely articulates the impact of the trends on established goals. Partners with the cost accounting team to review product costing and maintain production cost variance oversight. Develops and maintains working relationships with key operational staff to monitor operating costs, loss of product, samples, credit claims, return of product and other margin adjustments. Develops and maintains working relationships with Divisional Leadership, Sales, Logistics, and General Accounting to monitor sales and purchase agreements, freight charges, and product sales and costing adjustments. Participates in the month-end closing cycle and financial statement preparation, as needed. Applies and monitors compliance with corporate financial policies, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Participates in process and quality improvement initiatives. Interviews, hires, trains, and retains staff. Conducts performance monitoring of staff, initiating follow through with disciplinary action and termination in consultation with Human Resources when appropriate for the department. Mentors, motivates, and develops staff and acts as a role model and resource to them. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature and attending related conferences, seminars, etc. Maintains peer relationships in the field to share issues and ideas. Performs other duties as assigned.
When you will work:
Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Hybrid Work Schedule: 4 days in office, 1 day from home.
What you bring to the table:
Ten years previous finance and accounting experience in a corporate or public accounting environment with five years previous management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required. CPA, CMA, MBA preferred. Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data. This position demands a high level of integrity, self-reliance, thoroughness and attention to detail. Possess familiarity with product cost management and standard costing derivation and variance analysis. Ability to make decisive judgments and the creativity to develop fresh perspectives and new ideas for issues at hand. Knowledge of SAP, Blackline, and Anaplan applications as well as general product cost reporting and related systems. Must be able to present ideas effectively to leadership and other individuals or groups. Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with others in the accomplishment of organizational goals. Must have a strong math aptitude and also have the ability to interpret and comprehend a variety of instructions, data or information in written, verbal, diagram or schedule format.
