The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Modeling and Simulation Engineer to support our government customer located at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The DTRIAC Information Analysis Center (IAC) is looking for a Modeling and Simulation Engineer to compliment the larger technical team in the use, verification, and validation of advanced Nuclear Weapon Effects (NWE) modeling tools and the design of legacy CAD models for advanced analysis needs.

The primary mission of the Defense Threat Reduction Information Analysis Center (DTRIAC) is to provide timely electronic access to all nuclear weapons test data, legacy and current, to U.S. government programs supporting U.S. nuclear deterrent missions. DTRIAC maintains a repository of over 20,000 films, two million photographs, and 60 million pages of documents dating back to The Manhattan Project. Kpili Services is charged with making the above hardcopy materials easily accessible to DTRA deterrent mission researchers in a way that provides knowledge and meaning through the use of digitization, Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and data science.

The successful candidate for the Model and Simulations Expert position will evaluate and understand historical data (including legacy code) to produce scientific and technical assessments for modern missions. The candidate is expected to be able to review, evaluate, and analyze programs written in legacy codes such as Fortran 77, 90 & 95. Strong collaboration with other DTRA departments and agencies will occur.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Broad understanding of programming and interface with both modern and legacy codes in relation to weapons effects and design
  • Understand, compile, and execute legacy tools with advanced AI/ML translation capabilities to rewrite with modern syntax
  • Support projects by performing targeted modeling and simulation using DTRA-provided nuclear environments, effects, or survivability tools
  • Author technical reports, present at seminars, and provide training materials to technical leaders and community partners
  • Propose projects and analyses, as well as assist in the design, test, and implementation
  • Review individual documents, presentations, videos, films, and instrumentation datasets
  • Collaborate with Physics and Nuclear Effects subject matter experts to understand complex modeling and simulation situations
  • Support special products/projects involving verification and validation of computer codes used throughout DoD and DOE
  • Model complicated physical systems for input into simulation tools for internal or external development in SolidWorks/PTC CREO.
  • Core responsibilities will require understanding in common simulation suites such as ANSYS, CTH, computer languages including Python, MATLAB, Java, Fortran and/or Powershell, while collaborating with other SMEs to understand tools, analyze data, and refine codes with AI/ML capabilities with input from internal and external resources.
  • Work with other contracting teams to move and transfer data as needed on DoD IT systems in an efficient manner.
  • Expected Domestic and International Travel needs: 5-10% of the year
  • Additional duties may be added as the position evolves.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in a related field (Applied Mathematics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, etc.)

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Five plus (5+) years of related modeling and simulation experience
  • Two plus (2+) years of CAD experience
  • Capable of working in a dynamic and quick turn environment with many deliverables and other technical staff
  • Proficient in one or more of the following languages and tools: Linux Systems, LaTex, MatLab, Python/Anaconda, database and data management tools, Solidworks, Octave, Fortran, C++, and Microsoft products
  • Good collaboration with other team members
  • Staying updated with emerging technologies, tools, and techniques
  • Testing and debugging software tools for modeling and simulation
  • Evaluating and testing modern and legacy effects codes
  • Be able/willing to teach team members

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • MS or PhD in related field with at least three plus (3+) years of experience
  • Experience with nuclear effects or design related models
  • Experience applying AI/ML techniques for modeling and simulation
  • JavaScript experience (any web development background a plus)
  • Large data management and processing experience including databases
  • Understanding of advanced tools related to modeling and simulation of nuclear effects, and willingness to learn.
  • Understanding of High Performance Computer systems (HPC).
  • Understanding of advanced AI and Machine Learning techniques.
  • Understanding of image and data processing, or willingness to learn.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Top Secret/DOE Q clearance.
