We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Developer to support a critical DOT IT program focused on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) data infrastructure modernization in Washington, D.C.. This role will be essential in the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the FMCSA TruData platform, managing a key phase of data transition to the AWS cloud.
The ideal candidate will have the proven track record, skills, and experience to provide senior-level database development and support to ensure successful program execution.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Database Developer will play a crucial role in maintaining and modernizing the core data infrastructure by:

  • Providing support for the design, development, and maintenance of the database architecture, including new features, security, compliance, auto-scalability, monitoring, and performance for the TruData AWS architecture.
  • Performing complex database design, coding, testing, and debugging using advanced features of database management systems.
  • Developing, enhancing, and maintaining Stored Procedures, Views, Functions, Triggers, and SQL queries.
  • Supporting data integration, including data related to document metadata and contents.
  • Supporting a rapidly growing set of Datamarts, currently approaching 100.
  • Managing and mitigating technical concerns of data migration from FMCSA's master systems to the TruData Platform, ensuring reliability and availability.
  • Supporting the integration of data and capabilities from Automated Information Systems (AISs).
  • Addressing applicable technical debt and the Plan of Action and Milestones (POAMs).
  • Ensuring the performance of database systems and resolving complex operational, data, and data access issues.
  • Utilizing AWS native technology stack (or other provided technology) and supporting the continued modernization of the TruData platform.

Requirements

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Management, or a related field.

Technical Expertise

  • Extensive experience with the AWS native technology stack. This must include, but is not limited to:
  • Amazon Redshift (design, performance optimization).
  • AWS Data Pipeline, AWS Glue, Kinesis.
  • AWS Lake Formation, S3, DynamoDB.
  • Expert-level proficiency with SQL and Python scripting.
  • Extensive experience in database design, development, and administration in large-scale environments.
  • Fluency in computer languages and familiarity with computer hardware and software related to data acquisition and remote sensing.
  • Experience with developing and testing software for the reduction, analysis, and presentation of research data.

Proven Track Record

  • DOT experience is required.
  • Current knowledge of system reliability, cybersecurity, and DOT IT policies.
  • Prior experience in managing a program and a small team in the data transition to AWS cloud.
