Job Purpose:

The Collections Team Lead is responsible for supervision of the collection of past-due payments from small business customers that have outstanding lease obligations. This role supervises a team of collectors, develops strategies to minimize delinquency and charge-offs, and partners with cross-functional teams to protect portfolio quality and mitigate potential losses to the company.

Job Duties:

  • Core competencies, Compliance, and Risk Management
    1. Resolve, individually and collectively as a team, past due loan and lease payments and perform collection activities and related loan and lease servicing for delinquent accounts.
    2. Initiate collection calls and resolves delinquencies while demonstrating proper phone etiquette, written and verbal communication skills.
    3. Review and analyze loan and lease documents, payments, past dues, loan or lease collateral and inspections, monetary compliance/defaults, covenant(s) compliance, financial statement reporting, maturities, forbearance agreements, bankruptcy, and other legal proceedings.
    4. Adhere to, and ensure the team performs in compliance with, all applicable regulations, company policies, procedures, and best practices.
    5. Identify potential risks within the team or operations and take corrective action as necessary to mitigate risk.
    6. Collaborate with line of business partners to ensure proactive risk management for delinquency reduction and overall asset quality improvement.
  • Strategic Planning & Decision Making
    1. Collaborate with, and provide timely and accurate reporting to, senior management.
    2. Provide management reporting on delinquency trends, loss projections, and recovery performance.
    3. Ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
    4. Represent the small ticket leasing collections function in cross-department initiatives or audits.
    5. Analyze performance metrics to inform decision making.
    6. Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance quality and productivity.
    7. Execute effective collection strategies designed to efficiently resolve loan and lease delinquency, mitigate risk, and maximize recoveries.
    8. Recommend workout solutions and/or loan or lease modifications, implement orderly liquidation/exit or rehabilitation plans, manage foreclosures and repossessions.
    9. Approve workout plans within granted loan authority.
  • Team lead responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    1. Oversee the team's day-to-day operation, manage scheduling and workflow.
    2. Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team environment that aligns with Peoples Bank's culture.
    3. Ensure the clear communication of goals, establish priorities, expectations, and individual responsibilities.
    4. Assign equitable workloads based on skills, ensure efficient workflow, and monitor performance. Report as appropriate to senior management.
    5. Regularly assess team member performance, provide coaching, support, and guidance to improve skills and performance. Encourage "360 coaching" from the team.
    6. Regularly conduct one-on-one meetings to review performance. Appropriately address performance gaps which could include disciplinary action.
    7. Prepare and complete quarterly and annual reviews of direct reports.
    8. Identify skill gaps within the team and recommend training or development opportunities, as appropriate.
    9. Onboard new team members, ensuring they are properly trained and have the resources and tools necessary to succeed in their role.
    10. Approve time in ADP for direct reports.
  • Will perform special projects as assigned.

Education, Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience in commercial collections or as a loan officer, workout banker or credit analyst.
  • 2 years in a leadership role, preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of leasing structures, UCC filings, and commercial recovery practices.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply bankruptcy, lending laws and risks associated with troubled loans, state collection laws, foreclosure and Article 9 processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate viewpoint and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to understand and apply bank's credit policy.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable banking laws, regulatory requirements and credit/risk management practices.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft suite of products and commercial loan origination system software platforms.
  • Some travel required; must have a valid driver's license for travel throughout Peoples Bank footprint of offices.

Basic Qualifications:
