At Duke, we celebrate individuality and the unique perspectives that each member of our community brings. As the Facilities Coordinator, you'll be a vital part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that supports students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

You'll play a key role in maintaining and supporting the daily operations of the Perkins/Bostock/Rubenstein Libraries complex, while also assisting facilities staff across multiple on- and off-campus locations. Your work helps ensure our spaces remain safe, functional, and welcoming to all.

What You'll Do:




  • Facilities Support (40%)


    • Begin your day at Smith Warehouse supporting mail distribution and truck routing, then transition to Perkins Library for building operations and shipping coordination.
    • Coordinate routine and emergency services with vendors and departments (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
    • Manage inventory and storage of non-collection items across all library buildings.
    • Maintain capital asset inventory and liaise with Duke Plant Accounting.
    • Support office moves and space assignments; update Duke's Web Central system.


  • Administrative Support (30%)


    • Oversee key and card access issuance and inventory.
    • Monitor departmental email and communicate updates via Teams.
    • Maintain shared documentation folders and support purchasing/logistics.
    • Coordinate building safety communications, fire drills, and weather alerts.
    • Assist with strategic reporting and support department leadership.


  • Security and Safety (20%)


    • Participate in drills and assist in training security staff.
    • Ensure secure conditions in sensitive areas and serve as liaison with police and security offices.
    • Respond to after-hours alarms and review security footage when needed.


  • Other Duties (10%)


    • Provide backup for distribution tasks, including driving, delivery, and mail sorting.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Skills & Attributes:

    • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
    • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Commitment to outstanding customer service.
    • Valid NC Driver's License.


  • Education:

    • Two years of post-secondary education with strong organizational and communication skills.


  • Experience:

    • Required: At least three years of experience in building management or related operations.
    • Preferred: Experience in academic research libraries or university facilities; familiarity with Duke FMD operations; prior security coordination experience.

Salary Range:


This position offers a hiring range of $44,766 - $50,000, based on your years of experience and internal equity. Duke is committed to transparency and fairness in its hiring practices.
