As a Customer Development Chemist, you will support ongoing products and lead the development of new powder coating technologies for industrial markets. You will be lab-based, focused on formulating, testing, and improving coatings, with additional responsibilities in customer support, data analysis, and project coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will demonstrate clear technical understanding of chemistries, products, and projects.

  • Guide new products from lab into production working with manufacturing, technical administration, and supply chain

  • Complete assigned work requests independently in the agreed upon time

  • Work with manager to set project goals and timelines

  • Communicate with sales team about status of work requests

  • Interact independently with customers

  • Interpret complex customer specifications to understand product requirements

  • Plan, conduct and analyze experimental work (coatings formulation, application, testing) with minimal input from technical leadership

  • Organize work to maximize productivity in the laboratory

  • Collaborate with associates from other locations around the globe

  • Contribute ideas for new coating systems and application processes

  • 75% time spent in laboratory preparing and testing powder coating samples

  • 25% desk work supporting customers, answering emails, managing work requests, and analyzing data

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering.

  • 3+ years of experience in coatings or related field (preferred).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
