The Operational Excellence Engineer works under the general direction of the Director of Operations with minimum supervision. The job of an operational excellence engineer involves conducting research and analysis to identify the strength and weaknesses of operations, finding areas needing enhancement. Developing, and executing improvement projects, setting goals and objectives, and coordinating with internal and external parties. Is responsible for streamlining operations and facilitating optimal efficiency by assessing the gaps in the organizational functional areas of processes, people, and technology.


Responsibilities:



  • Develop and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency, productivity, and cost.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of process improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze data to identify operational trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prioritize, and execute operational process improvement opportunities.
  • Track KPIs to measure progress and success of operational excellence initiatives.
  • Manage and monitor projects ensuring schedules, scope and costs are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Motivate employees to improve performance by fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Recommend new capital equipment purchases to improve efficiency, productivity, or cost.
  • Maintain and improve Kaman's competitive position by identifying and justifying robust state-of-the art manufacturing processes/improvement solutions.
  • Facilitate kaizen events and other collaborative problem-solving sessions.
  • Conduct process mapping and analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for upper management on the status of operational excellence initiatives.
  • Assist in developing future processes that may be required to meet company goals.
  • Assist manufacturing engineering to expedite resolution of process issues.
  • Serve as a role model for continuous improvement and positive change.
  • Design, develop and/or modify tooling, processes, and procedures to support manufacture of composite parts and assemblies including mold tools, drill fixtures, and assembly tools.
  • Modifications/improvements to Tool Design, Tool fabrication and manufacturing documentation.
  • Completes other tasks as assigned by management.


Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field preferred


Experience:



  • 1-5 years of related experience preferred
  • Broad knowledge of a general technical field such as mechanical, industrial, or electrical engineering.
  • Must be able to read complex blueprints, technical drawings, bills of material, assembly instructions utilized to build units, assemblies, and parts.
  • Has knowledge of program and project management principals, practices, and tools.
  • Ability to lead, without necessarily having reporting authority, large scale key focus area process improvement events to successful implementation.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred), ERP systems (Epicor preferred) and general office applications (MS Office preferred)
  • Effective oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team/collaborative environment.
