The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), or related discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience in an Information Technology environment
  • Knowledge of Computer networks, systems, and infrastructure
  • Understanding of Cybersecurity fundamentals

Salary Range: $63,200.00 - $79,000.00 annually - commensurate with experience

Job Purpose:

Supports the health and operation of OUC's corporate network, ensuring it is both resilient and reliable 24/7 for applications, databases, and OUC customers. Tests routine network equipment changes.

Monitor and trouble-shoot the network as needed. Identify end of life/end of support equipment in advance and recommend new models. Configure and install switches, firewalls, and routers as needed.

Primary Functions:

  • Assist in the design and deployment of functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN);
  • Configure and install software, servers, routers, and other network devices;
  • Monitor network performance and integrity of switches, next generation firewalls, load balancers, and routers using network monitoring, SIEM and other tools;
  • Resolve issues that tiers of support have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure;
  • Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness;
  • Assist with the creation and testing of security measures (e.g., access authentication and disaster recovery);
  • Maintain complete technical documentation of network configurations and detailed architecture diagrams;
  • Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity, and scalability;
  • Monitor the corporate wired and wireless Network at OUC;
  • Test changes to the Network environment (operating system patches, cybersecurity modifications, and upgrades) on the Test Network Lab prior to promoting changes to production;
  • Identify forthcoming end of life equipment and recommend replacement models;
  • Maintain an Inventory of all Test and Production Network equipment, including spare and salvage;
  • Monitor other business unit networks as needed;
  • Coordinate with IT staff and support staff managing other business unit networks (Supervisory control and data acquisition [SCADA] systems, Water Production);
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of all, but not limited to the following:
    • Familiarity with network administration and architecture;
    • Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g., Python, Perl);
    • Network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools;
    • Basic understanding of network operating systems;
    • Knowledge of load balancer administration;
    • Familiarity with access control models and network security;
    • Basic understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF);
    • Equipment to include: Network Switches, Next Generation Firewalls, Routers, and Load Balancers;
    • Maintain network disaster recovery documentation;
    • Effective interpersonal, active listening, and written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to:
    • Install, maintain, and support computer networks;
    • Create and maintain detailed network diagrams;
    • Demonstrate an ability to troubleshoot problems effectively;
    • Adept at working independently and taking ownership of tasks;
    • Assist with creating, overseeing, and testing security measures (e.g., access authentication and disaster recovery);
    • Make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages;
    • Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.).

Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements:

  • HS Diploma or GED;
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), or related discipline from an accredited college or university (preferred);
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience in an Information Technology environment;
  • Industry-related experience in IT or network support (preferred);
  • An understanding of public/government Cloud Network Environments (preferred);
  • Licenses, Certificates, and Registrations:
    • Professional certification (e.g., Microsoft MTA, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CCST)(preferred).

Working Conditions:

This job involved occasional working in confined spaces. This job is mostly performed in an office work environment.

Physical Requirements:

This job requires constant speaking and hearing. This job requires frequent standing, typing, and detailed inspection. This job requires occasional walking, sitting, lifting up to forty (40) lbs., bending/stooping, reaching over head, and kneeling and/or crawling. This job may involve the driving of a company vehicle.
