Position Summary:
The
TOP Advisor powers the potential of
TRIO students at Oregon Tech by providing holistic and wrap-around advising support to a caseload of up to approximately 75 students.Additionally, the
TOP Advisor teaches student success seminar classes, coordinates Tech Opportunities Program (
TOP) events, and manages student peer mentor staff. Finally, the
TOP Advisor collaborates cross-institutionally and community-wide with program stakeholders in referring program participants to services on an as-needed basis.
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related area.
- One year of experience providing direct service or advising low-income, first-generation, or disabled populations. Knowledge of social or cultural systems influencing poverty and/or homelessness.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organization and record keeping skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology. Student Affairs, or related area. OR; Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Student Affairs AND 5 years of experience in education or social services (or combined).
- Two years of experience advising/counseling college students.
- Experience working or participating in programs for historically excluded students such as TRIO
- Bi-lingual Spanish language fluency
