This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, the Staff Research Associate I will perform a number of duties for research studies focusing on mental illness, sleep, and successful aging within the Department of Psychiatry. Major responsibilities will include preparing and deploying of physical measurement devices, administration and scoring of neuropsychological tests and clinical rating scales, study recruitment and scheduling coordination assistance, data analysis, preparation and processing of data charts for computerized entry, database management, retention efforts for multiple longitudinal studies, working as part of a research team to retain study participants. Perform other general research tasks, such as: library and computer research, and general administrative and office tasks. Assist with other project and miscellaneous duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge of psychology, neuroscience, biology, cognitive science or related field preferred as typically attained by a Bachelor's degree and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Theoretical knowledge of geriatric psychology, successful aging, and gerontology.

  • Demonstrated understanding of psychology, successful aging, and DSM-V criteria for psychiatric disorders.

  • Demonstrated experience working in both psychiatric and aging research environments.

  • Experience in working with and scoring of neuropsychological tests and clinical rating scales.

  • Experience using PC's including relational databases, word processing, spreadsheet, and statistical analysis programs.

  • Demonstrated skill in organizing, analyzing, managing time, setting priorities and meeting deadlines for multiple tasks.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment. Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to sustain careful attention to detail for long periods of time.

  • Familiarity with the following psychological testing and structured interviewing techniques: diagnosis (DSM-IV criteria), comprehension assessment, PANSS, SAPS and SANS, cognitive battery (e.g., HVLT, Trail Making Test, MATRICS), qualitative aspects of research participation, HAM-D, and SF-36.

  • Proven ability to enter data into relational databases in an accurate and precise manner.

  • Experience in deploying devices to assess and treat sleep (including actigraphy, fitness trackers, home sleep test, and positive airway pressure).

  • Demonstrated understanding of sleep physiology, specifically of circadian rhythms, sleep-disorders, and different stages of sleep.

  • Ability to design and maintain logs; develop reports and tables.

  • Demonstrated experience working with Sleep Apnea, Fitbit, and other wearable devices.

  • Experience coordinating blood draw scheduling with ACTRI and participants.

  • Experience scheduling field research/virtual appointments with participants and explain the use of each wearable device for physical measurements including Fitbit and Apnealink.

  • Demonstrated experience assisting in coordination of participants for research study.

  • Demonstrated experience collecting devices from participants and download data from physical activities devices study computer according to procedures.

  • Experience training other research associates on the deployment of the physical activities devices.

  • Experience to use Epic read Access to check for lab results.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be willing to work with both a psychiatric population and an elderly research population.

  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel off-site to conduct assessments.

  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime, weekends or flexible schedule.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $58,151 - $69,363 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.85 - $33.22

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
