The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-trackposition in the mechanics of advanced materials for electrochemical systems at all ranks (Assistant, Associate, and Full). This positionis part of the RISE-EARTH Initiative. The applicants' research should address societally impactful problems in sustainability andelectrochemical systems through advances in the understanding and management of complex mechanical systems, the coupling ofmechanical, chemical and transport physics, preventing material failure and degradation, and through the engineering of advancedenergy materials.
Ideal candidates will leverage intellectual, experimental, and computational assets across the University of Wisconsin-Madison, such asthe Wisconsin Centers for Nanoscale Technology, Wisconsin Structures & Materials Testing Laboratory and the Center for HighThroughput Computing.

This position is part of the Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (RISE) Initiative. Building on UW-Madison'sstrengths, RISE expands the University's successful track record of connecting with communities and industry on collaborativesolutions.
Over the next three academic years, UW-Madison will substantially increase current hiring levels, bringing 150 new RISE faculty tocampus. Candidates hired through RISE will join a community of scholars working across disciplines, schools and colleges on research,teaching and outreach endeavors. The community will engage regularly in venues such as seminar series and colloquia to shareongoing projects and identify opportunities to work together. The University will support the community, facilitating access to researchinfrastructure, and funding to support broad and rich collaboration.

Through the campus RISE hiring initiative and the College of Engineering RISE faculty hiring matching program, the College ofEngineering will increase by nearly 50 tenure-track faculty members representing a more than a 20% growth in the total faculty body.The RISE EARTH hiring initiative will add 20 new faculty members to this vibrant community in the College of Engineering.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is rapidly expanding, with growing studentenrollment and a dynamic wave of faculty hires, making it one of the university's most vibrant and fast-evolving departments. TheDepartment offers and fosters a transdisciplinary research and educational environment and provides the infrastructure to addressgrand technological challenges. Candidates who can contribute to these priorities are encouraged to identify their strengths andexperiences in these areas in their cover letter, research statement, and/or teaching statement.
Current research areas in the ME Department include energy systems and storage, electrochemical systems, and sustainability;robotics, sensing and autonomous systems; computer-aided engineering, data-driven approaches, AI/ML and design; engineeringmechanics and aerospace engineering; cell mechanics, biomechanics and biorobotics; and advanced materials design andmanufacturing. New research directions will continue to be launched and nurtured to facilitate creative solutions to transformativetechnical challenges.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates will have a demonstrated record of academic achievement such as peer-reviewed publications and grant awardsappropriate for the appointment level sought, exceptional potential in establishing a world-class research program and a demonstratedcommitment to high-quality and inclusive undergraduate and graduate instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate and Full professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials that meet the tenure standards of the UW-Madison Divisional Committee and of the College of Engineering.

Education:

Required
PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
