GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Ground Robotics Installer for Autonomous Vehicle Technologies is responsible for integrating electro?mechanical control systems, sensors, and associated cabling into a wide range of ground vehiclesiincluding medium? and heavy?duty trucks, utility vehicles, and Class 8 tractor?trailersiat Micro Systems facilities or customer sites. This role supports the conversion of conventional vehicles into unmanned, leader?follower, and remotely operated platforms by applying disciplined installation practices, safety procedures, and hands?on fabrication skills.

This position is ideal for candidates with deep experience in custom automotive electronics integration, especially those who have built one?off solutions, fabricated mounting hardware, and executed clean, reliable wiring in complex environments. Backgrounds in high?end 12?volt systems, custom enclosures, power distribution, and vehicle modification translate directly to the electrical integration, mechanical adaptation, and problem?solving required for early?stage autonomous vehicle system installations. We are seeking someone who goes beyond basic stereo installationisomeone who has created custom solutions, adapted components to unique vehicle geometries, and taken ownership of full?system integration challenges.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Work independently or as a team to convert conventional ground vehicles, typically medium to large utility trucks and tractor-trailers, from "manned" to "unmanned" operation by installing the company's proprietary electro-mechanical control system hardware using a wide array of hand and power tools.
  • Fabricate custom mounting solutions, brackets, enclosures, and equipment racks to house electronic control system components within vehicle platforms.
  • Cut and drill into sheet metal, plastic, and composite materials as required to facilitate installation of hardware while striving to be minimally invasive and avoiding collateral damage to the greatest extent possible.
  • Route electrical cables and wiring harnesses, manage power distribution across multiple system components, connect and adjust mechanical linkages, mount brackets and electronic enclosures, and install all other associated parts and components in a neat and organized manner.
  • Support control system integration, signal verification, and testing after the installation process.
  • Communicate technical information effectively, both written and verbally, with other engineering personnel.
  • Capture and record installation procedures in a comprehensive and cohesive manner such that other personnel may be able to duplicate and repeat the installation process as documented.
  • Travel to customer sites to perform vehicle surveys, system installations, and support follow-on testing as needed, oftentimes outdoors, for a span of a few days to a couple of weeks.
  • Perform any other work-related tasks as directed by Supervisor and/or Program Engineer.
  • Support program development by recommending design improvements based on hands-on installation experience.
  • Manage job assignments and provide accurate job status reports to Program Engineer as required.
  • Operate medium to large-sized utility trucks and tractor-trailers as necessary for movement on facility property desired.
  • This is an onsite position.

Required Experience:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Strong knowledge of 12-volt electrical systems, DC power distribution, wiring, and circuit protection.
  • Experience with power distribution planning and execution for multiple battery and amplifier (or similar multi-component) configurations.
  • Familiarity with audio signal processing wiring and tuning, or analogous multi-channel electrical signal routing and calibration.
  • Fabrication skills including custom enclosure and rack building, dash modification, and panel fabrication using fiberglass, MDF, composites, or sheet metal.
  • Working knowledge of multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other electrical diagnostic tools.
  • Basic knowledge of automotive mechanical systems and vehicle platforms.
  • Ability to problem-solve installation challenges in confined or non-standard vehicle spaces.
  • Ability to read and write effectively in English.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.
  • Ability to adhere to workplace rules.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • Intermediate level of MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Custom aftermarket car audio or 12-volt electronics installation, including complex multi-amplifier and multi-battery builds.
    • Custom vehicle fabrication (amplifier racks, speaker enclosures, dash builds, trim panel modification).
    • Automotive or heavy equipment electrical/mechanical systems installation, diagnosis, and modification.


  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of hand and power tools, including routers, jigsaws, drills, soldering equipment, and wire crimping/termination tools.
  • Portfolio or demonstrated history of custom installation work is a strong plus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Production,office, and garage/outdoor environment
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time or work extended hours as necessary.
  • Ability to work outdors on autnomous vehicle inlcuding Calss 8 vehicles to insall electrical and mechanical systems
  • Ability to work inside, outside, and under the vehicle
  • Possess a valid driveris license
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision and work well with co-workers.
  • Ability to travel to customer locations
  • Ability to travel by air or motor vehicle for work purposes.
  • Possess a passport or be willing and able to obtain (at companyis expense) to allow for work travel overseas.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
