Overview

This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States.

This position will be as a Field Inspector within the Technical Services Team of the Rail Mechanical group. The position requires willingness to travel and requires a strong knowledge base of various types of rail cars and the regulations that they must meet. The position has a variety of responsibilities including inspection of rail cars especially tank cars, auditing of repair shops, review of repair procedures and instructions, and training of shop personnel to our internal procedures and documentation requirements, with the end goal that our entire railcar fleet is maintained to the appropriate standards and meets all regulations. Must maintain a proficient knowledge of AAR, DOT, and Transport Canada (TC) regulations and have an effective understanding of their implications for our rail business operations.


Responsibilities

  • Shop Auditing - Travel to various railcar repair facilities within North America ad conduct audits to our repair instructions and procedures. Evaluate proposed new repair facilities to be included in our shop network. Ensure that shops are capable of providing high-quality repairs that meet all federal and AAR regulations.
  • Railcar Inspections - Perform other ad-hoc individual car inspections on both tank and freight cars periodically and as needed.
  • Repair Procedures - Write and revise repair procedures, qualification procedures, and other repair instructions as needed and ensure that all written instructions comply with federal and AAR regulations.
  • Required Documentation - Ensure shop documentation and reports submitted by railcar repair facilities are adequate and meet all regulatory and company standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Railroad Industry Knowledge and Regulations

High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Railroad Industry Knowledge and Regulations

The base pay for this position is relative to your experience but the range is generally $86,000 - $160,000 per year.

Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
