Description
GAI Consultants is looking for an Engineering Manager to support our Power and Industry Business Sector. This person will serve as an electrical engineering group manager and project manager for multi-discipline projects for industrial, power, utility, government, health care, educational, and commercial clients. This position requires technical and management skills as well as client relation skillsets and acting as the overall Project Manager for multi-discipline projects within GAI (such as mechanical, electrical, process, civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering) and directs the electrical tasks, including delegation of tasks to engineering/drafting staff, preparation and checking of calculations, drawing development, preparation of deliverables, and budget tracking. Project work includes new construction, modification projects, condition assessment/rehabilitation, and feasibility studies. Projects include the traditional Time and Expense, Design/Bid/Build delivery method, as well as Owner's Engineer Services and Design/Build. Job description:
- Direct and manage the performance of electrical analysis/design and preparation of drawings and specifications per engineering standards and applicable codes.
- Provide leadership, coaching and/or mentoring to the electrical group
- Project management responsibilities including delivering scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety and profitability of all projects managed. Plans and manages small to medium value projects and multiple projects at one time. works closely with Project Accounting to monitor and control project cost and billings to meet budget profit, to analyze project performance data and to develop recovery plans as needed.
- Generate new work for the business sector through client outreach.
- Proposal preparation including scope and budget development and interdisciplinary coordination
- Draft site reports, design narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums.
- Collaborate with other engineering leads for resource and schedule management, the performance of QA/QC peer reviews, and staff mentorship.
- Independently conduct field condition assessments.
- Performance of bid and construction phase services including responding to bidder questions, responding to Contractor Requests for Information, and submittal reviews, site visits, and verifying change order documentation.
- Perform projects that are managed by other engineering leads.
- Have the ability to lift 50 lbs., able to climb ladders, work at heights over 25 ft.
- Must be able to wear and work in Personal Protection Equipment including fall protection.
- Physically capable of performing field visits to client sites to obtain photos, physical measurements, and view site conditions.
- Ability to work independently and direct/oversee engineering and drafting staff on a project basis.
- Possess strong communication skills that will allow for a collaborative environment with other engineering disciplines.
Travel is estimated to be 20%. General Characteristics

Experience
Education
Certification/Licensure
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.
Technical Responsibilities
- Predominantly serves as the technical advisor for the practice in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.
- Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the practice for the purpose of recommending changes in projects or applications.
- Predominantly develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.
- Values and analyzes sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective.
Project and Task Management
- Predominantly plans, schedules, and coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects or is responsible for an entire project of a practice.
- Analyzes project management plans for complex engineering projects.
- Understands project delivery uncertainties and uses risk management principles to address them.
- Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
- May serve as the Project Manager for certain projects with prior approval from GAI's President
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises a staff of engineers and technicians.
- Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
- Provides continued mentored experience to senior staff.
- Integrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and fosters creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.
Communication
- Applies principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications.
- Represents their area of specialty within the practice and liaises with related individuals and practices.
- Routinely interacts with practice leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others.
- Integrates concepts of effective teamwork and leadership.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelors of Electrical Engineering (required)
Experience
10 years: Heavy industrial, oil & gas, power, chemical, commercial or related industries.
Demonstrates sales experience in acquiring new clients, developing/maintaining existing clients.
