Job Description

General Summary:

The Director, Marketing Excellence and Execution serves as a key leader in the US Pain Business Unit, evolving the brand strategy to reflect competitive dynamics, identifying opportunities for growth, and maximizing lifecycle management. This role will oversee brand planning, execution of key initiatives, measurement and reporting, and prepare for a potential expansion into chronic pain management. This leadership role will be critical to maximizing the impact of our marketing promotional spend and fundamentally transforming how pain is managed with the first new class of medicines in over two decades.

This individual will be charged with identifying opportunities across the marketing verticals to accelerate the growth of JOURNAVX. They will exemplify Vertex's uncompromising commitment to patients, navigating how we show-up and deliver this commitment in a large and diverse market. We are seeking a candidate that has a strong track record in US commercialization, demonstrated success in coaching diverse teams, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative-focused environment. This role reports to the Vice President of Marketing for the US Pain Business Unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evolve the brand strategy to reflect competitive dynamics, identify opportunities for growth, and maximize lifecycle management
  • Communicate the marketing vision, mission, and objectives to drive internal and external cross-functional stakeholder alignment (e.g., monthly newsletters, BULT presentations, town halls)
  • Orchestrate the execution of marketing content and tactics to the field, HCPs, and consumers by leveraging automation to drive efficiencies (e.g., track status of campaigns, manage content timelines and delivery)
  • Drive effective field pull-through of materials by streamlining available resources, talking points, and training guidance
  • Lead the marketing planning and budgeting process to ensure alignment across verticals (HCP, Consumer, Health System)
  • Establish a governance process and meeting cadence to align marketing verticals throughout the calendar year (e.g., manage weekly LT and monthly full-marketing team meetings)
  • Lead the marketing excellence team and deliver exceptional results by coaching individual team members and fostering collaboration with cross-functional and agency partners
  • Maintain agency relationships and manage all related promotional spend, including quarterly business reviews and regular updates to finance
  • Create a measurement plan and reporting process to track and share the impact of key marketing initiatives with BULT and senior leadership
  • Serve as the point of contact for engagement with the SCE team, including the management of the CFC teams and all related POA activities including VAKO
  • Evolve the US go-to-market approach for JVX for expansion with the potential expansion into pediatrics and chronic pain (e.g., DPN)
  • Lead the launch readiness process and team for potential future indications for JVX
  • Manage key cross-functional and ad-hoc projects for the marketing team

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience driving marketing campaigns, ability to oversee generation of insights, and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities
  • Experience leading teams, coaching individuals and creating excellent team culture
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and courage to challenge the status quo to develop innovative and focused approaches, regular measurement of results and pivoting based on a test and learn strategy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect with senior leaders as well as more varied large audiences
  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative and results-driven environment within a growing business unit where we are concurrently learning & building as we drive towards product launch
  • Demonstrated understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements for pre- and post-approval activities and ability to model expected behavior for the team
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel 30%

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years of educational/work experience in healthcare/biopharmaceuticals in marketing, consulting, agency or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Experience developing communications/tactics in U.S. or global marketing and managing agency efforts
  • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change management
  • Early career experience as a strong individual contributor in a professional work setting
  • Pharmaceutical marketing experience preferred

Pay Range:

$196,000 - $294,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
