Salary: $30/hr-$35/hr with a conversion salary range of $70,000-$75,000
Location: Manhattan, NY (Financial District)
Hybrid 3 days a week onsite

The Accountant supports accurate financial reporting and day-to-day accounting operations in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards. This role is responsible for revenue processing, reconciliations, and audit support, while maintaining strong internal controls and collaborating with internal teams to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.

Essential Functions
  • Review cash receipts and revenue transactions from Raiser's Edge (RE) for accuracy, documentation, and proper coding.

  • Post approved RE transactions into the Financial Edge (FE) accounting system on a regular basis.

  • Assist with monthly reconciliation of RE and FE for pledges and revenue in coordination with IT; identify reconciling items and prepare journal entry support.

  • Process check deposits through Chase Remote Check Deposit (RCD) and handle physical deposits as needed.

  • Verify daily deposits against RCD reports and bank-validated deposit slips.

  • Coordinate with Morgan Stanley regarding liquidation of stock donations and track stock transfers.

  • Notify appropriate stakeholders of stock donations within 24 hours of receipt.

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts, including Chase, Morgan Stanley, and JP Morgan.

  • Maintain electronic files of monthly bank statements in the Finance department records.

  • Update and maintain Special Purpose Fund Summary, L&E, and 1088 schedules; monitor and reconcile Michigan's 4903 account monthly.

  • Prepare supporting analyses and schedules for audits and internal finance requests.

  • Record journal entries related to reconciliations, reclassifications, and adjustments for review.

  • Process petty cash requests and maintain accurate records and secure custody of funds.

  • Maintain organized physical and electronic files of check copies and supporting documentation in compliance with policies.

  • Provide backup coverage for Finance team members and assist with time-sensitive accounting tasks as needed.

  • Support budget preparation, grant tracking, and financial reporting efforts.

  • Assist with identifying process improvements and supporting updates to accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (ASC 958), including fund accounting and basic grant compliance.

  • Experience using accounting systems such as Financial Edge and Raiser's Edge; strong Excel skills.

  • Experience supporting audits and preparing related schedules.

  • Exposure to budgeting and variance analysis preferred.
