JOB OVERVIEW:

The Senior Manager, Indirect Procurement is a key member of the Procurement team, reporting directly to the Director of Global Procurement. This role is responsible for leading and executing the strategic sourcing and procurement activities for the capital expenditure (CapEx)/engineering and indirect categories including but not limited to, plant and HQ operations/facilities, IT, and Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO). Based on the skills and qualifications of this person, it is possible that some of these categories could be swapped for other Indirect categories such as Logistics/Transportation, Marketing, HR, Professional/Consulting Services, and/or Travel. For CapEx, this role will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for capital projects including equipment, construction services, engineering services, and large-scale facility investments. This role ensures alignment among business goals, cost optimization, supplier relationship management (SRM), and continuous improvement of procurement policies.

The Procurement organization at Blue Diamond Growers is on a journey to create a "best-in-class" sourcing organization, and this role is critical in delivering on that mission. This is a very strategic and cross-functional role. Management of the CapEx and indirect categories will include everything from partnering with internal business partners to align on sourcing needs and to develop a sourcing/category strategy; identifying and implementing savings opportunities within those categories; leading SRM (including quarterly business reviews, scorecards, etc); executing RFIs/RFPs; and negotiating contracts.

This role has no direct reports but will work cross-functionally across the organization and collaboratively with the other Procurement Managers within the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Cost Optimization & Risk Management:

  • Conduct spend analysis and market intelligence, in addition to understanding the business' and the specific department's strategic priorities, to identify and execute cost-saving opportunities
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or delivery timelines
  • Work closely with the Finance team to forecast, track, and analyze cost-savings from the CapEx and indirect categories
  • Monitor and manage procurement risks, including supply chain disruptions, inflation/tariffs, and contractual liabilities

Policy and Compliance:

  • Ensure procurement processes comply with internal policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards
  • Track and report CapEx procurement KPIs, including savings, contract coverage, and supplier performance
  • Support audit, compliance, and financial reporting requirements related to CapEx investments
  • Drive adoption of procurement tools, processes, and best practices across the organization
  • Assist in developing a Supplier Code of Conduct

Leadership and Communication:

  • Act as a leader within Procurement, within the Finance/IT/Procurement department, and across the broader organization
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability and results
  • Clearly communicate procurement activities and strategies to senior management
  • Effectively document, communicate, and gain consensus across the organization to ensure alignment

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, economics, finance, engineering, or a related field (MBA or relevant certification such as CPSM, CIPS preferred)
  • 10 years or more of progressive procurement experience, especially strategic sourcing and in leadership
  • Experience in CapEx and indirect procurement is strongly preferred, especially knowledge of the various key components and negotiation tactics for marketing, IT, CapEx, and service-related contracts
  • Required in-depth knowledge of the sourcing process
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and contract management skills
  • Proven track record of developing sourcing strategies, negotiating excellent contracts, delivering cost-savings, improving supplier performance, and influencing stakeholders
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of investment lifecycle and capital budgeting
  • Experience with eProcurement tools and ERP systems, especially SAP and Ariba
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills in order to drive aggressive implementation plans and schedules
  • Must be able to problem-solve and handle multiple projects and stakeholder needs
  • Ability to work efficiently
  • Commitment to ethical procurement practices and continuous improvement
  • People management/leadership skills - ability to help guide and coach direct reports with business and professional development goals
  • 5-10% travel required

  • Passion for agriculture, the food industry, sustainability, and our mission
  • Strong attention to detail and process oriented
  • Ability to solve complex problems and make sense of large datasets

  • Some travel to our sites in Turlock and Salida; potentially travel to suppliers for business reviews/meetings, etc
