Summary:
The Billing Supervisor is responsible for supervising billing and cash operations for patient financial services under the direction of the Manager, Billing and Cash Management. Provides assistance to staff to resolve difficult accounts and ensures credit balances are addressed timely and according to policy.

Responsibilities:

1. Supervises and organizes daily activities of billing/follow-up and cash applications staff.

2. Assists billing/follow-up staff with complex billing and reconciliation accounts. Provides guidance on difficult or older accounts by assisting staff to resolve issues.

3. Coordinates the orientation and training of assigned employees. Oversees competency assessment and completion of skills checklists. Collaborates with Manager in determining the continuing education and professional growth needs of the staff. Investigates complaints, errors and other operational or equipment problems and takes corrective action. Participates in the development of employee performance capabilities and provides input into the performance review process for assigned staff.

4. Makes recommendations regarding discipline, if needed. Participates in creating an atmosphere and condition which are conducive to and foster motivation of employees to work at optimal efficiency.

5. Reviews all refunds to ensure balance is a true credit balance. Will review to ensure the credit balance is not related to a balance or transaction that was misapplied.

6. Reviews accounts that are in need of payor escalation.

7. Effectively assesses learning needs of staff and collaborates with staff to provide or coordinate appropriate training education. Routinely provides on the spot in service for assigned staff when minor deficiencies are observed so that problems do not persist or grow worse.

8. Promotes team morale.

9. Ensures staff are meeting established goals related to productivity and quality expectations.

10. Contributes to the professional development of staff, by observing work, tracking performance indicators, answering questions, explaining proper procedures, demonstrating techniques, and intervening as warranted to correct deficiencies or help resolve problems.

11. Continuously assesses employee performance, documenting significant achievement and or deficiencies. Works with Manager on coaching or counseling, as appropriate, to maximize employee capabilities and performance. Encourage staff to regularly establish and work towards individual goals.

12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

* High School Diploma or equivalent required.
* Preferred, Bachelor of Science Degree in Business or other related field

Experience:

* Five years' experience in patient accounting experience in a healthcare setting
