Music & Performing Arts - Full-time faculty

About the role
  • Full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, conducting the Wind Symphony, leading the instrumental studies area, and serving as administrator of the Piano Proficiency Exam.

What you'll do
  • Conduct the Bethel University Wind Symphony, an ensemble that includes music majors and non-majors from across the university
  • Serve as the department's Director of Instrumental Activities
  • Teach a variety of courses and oversee the piano proficiency program
  • Participate in departmental activities, including planning for the annual Festival of Christmas performances and various concerts in the fall and spring
  • Recruit students to the Wind Symphony regardless of major
  • Recruit instrumental majors to the department
  • Plan and travel on annual ensemble tours
  • Evaluate applicants for music scholarships
  • Conduct the biennial musical and work with the creative team during the January Term
  • Actively support the University's commitment to its Christian values and liberal arts education
  • Contribute to an academic environment that seeks to advance inclusive excellence in the department and the discipline
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the department

Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of wind, brass, and percussion methods
  • Ability to teach piano proficiency courses and administer the exam
  • Exceptional conducting and concert programming skills
  • Ability to assist in hiring and management of adjunct instrumental music lessons faculty
  • Exceptional keyboard skills
  • Ability to teach private piano lessons
  • Substantial knowledge of musical theatre repertoire
  • Musical theatre music direction and pit orchestra leadership

Experience
  • 3-5 years experience as primary conductor of a collegiate concert wind or similar ensemble required
  • Experience serving as a staff accompanist or as an instructor of applied piano required
  • Experience in Music Education preferred

Education
  • Doctorate in Instrumental Conducting, Music Education, or a related field is required

Compensation

Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience. Typical salary for Assistant Professor $55,599 - $70,043, Associate Professor $62,927 - $84,168 for 24 Load Credits a year.
