- Diagnose faults and solve common electrical problems on high and low Voltage.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspection tasks to prevent system breakdowns and maximize electrical usability.
- Be able to understand the safety procedures involved with installation and be comfortable using hand tools.
- You will need to follow local, state, and national electric codes.
- You will also troubleshoot electrical issues and problems that may arise.
- Responsible for troubleshooting, analysis, fault detection, and repair of locomotive electrical and train control systems, sub-systems, and components.
- Perform modifications from drawings, prints, or electrical systems on locomotives as assigned.
- Perform fault detection and diagnostics through the use of microprocessor and diagnostic equipment.
- Install and maintain electrical wiring and equipment such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and electrical equipment.
- Perform equipment work order management using the asset management database.
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
- Operate locomotive, passenger coaches, and prime mover as part of a team to move rail equipment.
- Additional duties as assigned in accordance with the union agreement and incidental work rule provisions.

Required Skills / Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 4 years of experience working as an electrician in an industrial environment
- Minimum 4 years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints
- Minimum 4 years of experience in interpreting circuit schematics
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Journeyman Electrician
- Master Electrician
- Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)
- Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
- Reasoning skills (problem-solving and troubleshooting skills)
- Mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of electrical theory
- Be able to obtain a Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation and qualification
- Need to meet regulatory medical qualifications to qualify for Maintenance Facility Engineer and Maintenance Facility Conductor
- Have basic proficiency with Windows software and Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., Outlook).

- Heavy work, lifting to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis

- Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis
- Driving record needs to be free from any moving convictions for alcohol or substance abuse within the previous 36 months
- Work safely to prevent on-the-job accidents and injuries
- Wear protective equipment such as a hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, and safety glasses
- Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
- Complete annual training and pass the safety rules examination
- Subject to random testing for drugs and alcohol per certifications
- Pass all needed assessments
- Needed to pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug and alcohol testing.
- This position will be governed by a collective bargaining agreement; membership is needed
- Active employees must complete one year in their current position or craft before applying for positions
