Job Purpose

The Principal Project Manager is a recognized leader in electric project delivery, responsible for overseeing highimpact, complex projects across distribution, transmission, and substation systems within the Eastern Division. This role requires outstanding competence, deep technical expertise, and strategic leadership to drive excellence in project execution, governance, and stakeholder engagement. In addition, the Principal Project Manager serves as a subject matter expert in the discipline of project management and is responsible for mentoring, training, and upskilling Project Managers across the Complex Project Management team.

Key Accountabilities
  • Providing strategic oversight and expert guidance across all phases of the project lifecycle, including:
    • Project communications and team leadership
    • Accountability and Control of scope, cost, quality, schedule, and risk
    • Compliance with environmental, safety, and National Grid standards and policies
    • Acquisition of required permits, licenses, and land rights
    • Oversight of engineering and design deliverables
    • Procurement and administration of contracted services, equipment, and materials
    • Construction execution, operational interfaces, and commissioning
    • Project closeout activities and formal acceptance
    • Preparation and delivery of clear, concise project status reports to stakeholders
  • Acting as a senior mentor and coach to Project Managers at all levels, providing technical guidance, best practices, and career development support.
  • Leading largescale training initiatives to strengthen project management capabilities across the division, with emphasis on complex project delivery.
  • Serving as a manager proxy when required, ensuring continuity of leadership and decisionmaking.
  • Driving continuous improvement by identifying, developing, and implementing enhancements to project management processes, tools, and policies (e.g., forecasting, scheduling templates, contracting strategies).
  • Promoting innovation and continuous improvement in safety, including the adoption of new tools, technologies, and delivery methodologies.
  • Communicating effectively at all organizational levels, including developing executivelevel presentations and leading complex stakeholder engagements.
  • Fostering a highperformance team culture focused on collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and delivery excellence.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive project management experience in electric utility infrastructure.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or an additional four years of relevant project management experience; Master's degree preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Demonstrated expertise as a subject matter expert in a project discipline (e.g., substation, distribution, transmission lines) or portfolio (e.g., battery energy storage, distributed generation).
  • Strong working knowledge of utility accounting principles, Primavera P6 scheduling, and contract management.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects under tight budget, schedule, and resource constraints.
  • Exceptional skills in leadership, negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • High standards of integrity, initiative, judgment, and strategic thinking.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving history.

Salary: $140,000.00 - $165,000.00 USD
