Job Summary: The journeyman level Vehicle & Equipment mechanic position diagnoses, repairs, maintains, outfits, and/or refurbishes vehicles, trailers and various types of vehicles and construction equipment. The Vehicle & Equipment Mechanic position will normally work at a service center in the Minneapolis Metropolitan area. The shift for this role is Monday-Friday, 3:30pm-11:30 pm Essential Functions:
- Familiarize oneself with the operation of diverse units, cranes and construction equipment through training provided
- Complete documentation, work orders, reports and submit them in a timely manner as instructed
- Identify electrical wiring to safely perform repairs
- Safeguard self as well as fellow workers and the public in course and scope of business by following the safety rules set forth in the Company's Accident Prevention Manual
- Fulfill and maintain all attendance requirements for both regularly scheduled hours and overtime
- Maintain proper working relationships with co-workers, management, clients and vendors
- Diagnoses and performs repairs on vehicles, equipment (including hydraulics) and trailers. Uses diagnostic test equipment
- Able to obtain and maintain special accreditation, licenses, certifications and permits required to perform this job as required by management, including:
- *DOT Regulated/DPS Administered Class "A" Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDL)
- *DOT/DPS Motor Vehicle Safety Inspectors License
- *OSHA Crane/Forklift Operators License
- Performs DOT inspections and PM maintenance in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Modifies and/or installs kits on vehicles, equipment, and trailers to make the unit conform to special needs
- Investigates various records, computer printouts /screens, and driver/operator complaints to determine extent of repairs and/or service required.
- Maintains work records and forms as needed to provide accurate and complete documentation of work activity.
- Uses safe work practices, proper safety equipment, and maintains the work area to provide a safe and clean working environment.
- Performs other related tasks as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of two years of college or technical training in the automotive technology field or related technical discipline from an accredited institution Experience:
- A minimum of five years of mechanical maintenance and repair on gas and diesel engines, heavy trucks and heavy equipment.
- Hydraulic maintenance and repair is preferred.
- Military training in diesel repair and maintenance may substitute for theexperience requirements.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE Certifications) preferred in the following:
- Automobile & Light Truck Certification Tests
- A5 - Brakes
- A6 - Electrical/Electronic Systems
- A7 - Heating & Air Conditioning
- A8 - Engine Performance
- Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Tests
- T2 - Diesel Engines
- T4 - Brakes
- F1-Compressed Natural Gas
Physical Requirements:
- Able to hear oral communication either in person or on equipment such as telephone, mobile phone or two-way radio.
- Must pass a Company medical evaluation and distinguish colors, have depth perception, and have hearing correctable to hear instructions or warnings from a person stationed on/around construction equipment
- Able to endure strenuous physical exertion and have the dexterity to utilize hand and power tools
- Able to work in outdoor environments while exposed to heat, cold, rain, humidity, as well as exposure to other abnormal air quality issues associated with industrial areas
- Drive various types of fleet vehicles and equipment
- Able to lift, push, pull and lower loads manually and using blocks and rope
- Able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for long periods of time
- Ability to lift and move bulky parts and tools (up to 100 lbs.) approximately 10 feet, and to lift 100 lbs. from floor to waist.
- Able to reach and work overhead for long periods of time
- Able to climb steel structures and work in aerial devices
- Body weight must not exceed weight limit ofequipment necessary to perform tasks
- Walk and climb to remote or limited access areas to repair or service equipment in all types of weather.
- Must be able to concentrate despite potential dangers associated with performing fleet maintenance during the operation of various types of heavy equipment.
Working Conditions:
- Able to support the Emergency Operating Plan.
- May voluntary participate in mutual assistance events which will require travel to assist other utilities restoring electric service
- Must maintain prompt attendance and be available for extended shifts (7 days per week and 24 hours per day)
- May be exposed to various poisonous plants, insects, animals such as rodents and snakes
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assumes responsibilities assigned by the company to aid in restoration efforts

Compensation Rate: 44.27 Hourly CenterPoint Energy is required by Minnesota law to provide a good faith estimate of the starting fixed pay rate at the time of posting for the opportunity.
