This role is located in Bethesda, MD.

Position Summary:
Peraton is seeking a Radio Technology SME Engineer to serve as a senior technical authority supporting complex radio communication systems, with emphasis on Air/Ground radios and related radio system disciplines. This role provides deep technical expertise in system design, optimization, performance analysis, and lifecycle sustainment while ensuring compliance with government and industry standards.

The ideal candidate is both technically exceptional and able to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to stakeholders at all levels, including government partners and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

    Serve as a subject matter expert for the design, integration, optimization, and troubleshooting of advanced radio communication systems.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance for system upgrades, modernization efforts, and performance improvements.

  • Analyze system performance data to identify trends, deficiencies, and opportunities for enhancement.

  • Develop, review, and maintain technical standards, engineering documentation, and operational procedures.

  • Ensure systems meet regulatory, government, and industry compliance requirements.

  • Translate complex technical requirements into clear, strategic briefings and presentations for leadership and external stakeholders.

  • Support lifecycle management activities, including maintenance planning and sustainment strategies.

  • Oversee inventory control and configuration management for specialized radio and communications equipment.

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, vendors, and program teams to ensure reliable and mission-ready systems.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D., 16 years in lieu of degree
  • The candidate must be able to obtain a public trust clearance
  • Demonstrated expertise in radio communications systems, particularly Air/Ground radio environments.

  • Strong experience in system design, performance analysis, and troubleshooting of RF-based communication systems.

  • Ability to serve as a technical authority and provide engineering direction across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience supporting system upgrades, lifecycle sustainment, and operational compliance.

  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership.

  • Experience managing maintenance schedules and equipment lifecycle planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting government or aviation-related communication environments.

  • Familiarity with regulatory and industry standards for radio communications systems.

  • Background in configuration management and specialized communications equipment inventory control.

  • Experience supporting modernization or large-scale system integration efforts.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
