Role Overview

The Index Solutions team is responsible for the onboarding and management of index data for use as benchmarks against portfolios, risk management, and research into new products and client opportunities. These indices are crucial for measuring performance, managing risk, and informing investment decisions. The team's primary responsibility is to ensure the accurate representation of financial indices within PIMCO systems, including the recurring periodic rebalancing of indices and the administration of indices to PIMCO funds and separately managed accounts. Index Solutions collaborates with multiple groups within PIMCO, including portfolio management, account management, product strategy, technology, and other operations groups to ensure the timely and accurate representation of index data and its use cases within the firm.

As an Index Solutions Associate, you will play a critical role in the onboarding, maintenance, and administration of index data. You will ensure the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of index data management processes while collaborating with various stakeholders to meet client needs and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with Account Management and Portfolio Management teams to implement client directives regarding benchmark changes

  • Conduct validations of index risk measures, prices, and security-level compositions

  • Research and review beginning and end-of-day controls and pricing exceptions processes, including developing new algorithms to identify and correct index data quality issues

  • Analyze index vendor data and create detailed documentation for new and existing data sources, working with technology and vendors to standardize data

  • Perform analysis and construct benchmarks within PIMCO systems using vendor data, applying business rules to create composites and derive sub-indices, including the addition of currency hedges if necessary

  • Review and validate index-related invoices

  • Catalogue long-term issues and remediation items for development prioritization

  • Research and respond to inquiries from the firm regarding index data and index mechanics

  • Review internal performance reports and research outlier exceptions

  • Collaborate with senior team members on new project and development needs

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Finance, Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering or another quantitative background. A Master's Degree and/or CFA preferred

  • Experience building and maintaining benchmarks and indices; validation of index risk measures, prices, and security-level compositions; performing end-of-day pricing and corporate actions processes; processing monthly index rebalances, and addressing performance-related queries is preferred

  • Previous experience effectively interfacing with portfolio managers, account managers, and other internal colleagues related to index data is preferred.

  • Prior index vendor experience is preferred

  • Hands-on experience with performance attribution and risk modeling is preferred

  • Knowledge of quantitative fixed income mathematics and a strong understanding of portfolio/risk management fundamentals is preferred

  • Intermediate-to-advanced SQL and/or programming languages is preferred

PIMCO follows a total compensation approach when rewarding employees which includes a base salary and a discretionary bonus. Base salary is the fixed component of compensation that is determined by core job responsibilities, relevant experience, internal level, and market factors. The discretionary bonus is used to award performance and therefore is determined by company, business, team, and individual performance.
Salary Range: $ 87,000.00 - $ 112,500.00
