Job Overview

Children's Hospital Colorado is seeking a Public Relations & External Communications Intern to provide essential support for media engagement and brand visibility during Summer 2026.

This role focuses on strengthening operational efficiency and advancing strategic public relations initiatives. Key responsibilities include assisting with media outreach and story development across local, regional, and national outlets, managing media lists and interview logistics and tracking earned media and social media performance to inform future strategies.

The intern will also contribute to content development for public-facing channels, compile internal media coverage updates, and support research on reputation-building opportunities and strategic partnerships. Collaboration with internal communications, digital marketing, and creative services teams ensures integrated messaging and cohesive campaign execution.

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, proactive individual eager to gain real-world experience in public relations while contributing meaningfully to the hospital's mission and brand presence.

  • Job Status: Temporary. Up to 40 hours per week. Hybrid.
  • Program Duration: May 2026 - August 2026
  • Shift:
    • Days. Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 4:30pm.
    • Monday, Thursday, Friday - remote, work from home
    • Tuesday, Wednesday - Required in-office

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supports in managing daily requests, and strategic story planning for local, regional and national television, print, radio and online media.
  • Assists with organizing and creating content for external purposes.
  • Plays a key role in supporting the Media Relations team by compiling and distributing a bi-weekly internal newsletter highlighting media hits to internal audiences.
  • Collaborates with team members to brainstorm and implement creative ideas that align with our brand messaging and values.
  • Learns and adheres to brand standards and guidelines while contributing to projects.
  • Helps promote organizational events.
  • Conducts research on industry trends, competitor analysis, and target audience insights to inform marketing strategies.
  • Provides general administrative support to the marketing team, including scheduling meetings, tracking and tagging earned media hits on an ongoing basis, and organizing digital files.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degrees
    • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in copywriting, journalism, marketing, public relations, communications, English, or a related field.

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $20 per hour
