RNP Nuclear Projects DPS Support Spec/Tech
Purpose of the Role:
The Nuclear Projects Specialist/Technician will be responsible for the support of digital systems and digital components upgrades within Robinson Nuclear Plant (RNP). This responsibility includes ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and cybersecurity industry, company, and site-specific standards, for all newly installed or upgraded digital systems and components by the Nuclear Projects organization. Additionally, this role will support the Nuclear Projects cybersecurity specialist team on an as needed basis with cybersecurity assessments, walkdowns, and other support of newly implemented modifications of digital systems or components.
NOTE: This role is specific to the Nuclear Projects organization for modifications and upgrades. This role is NOT intended to perform preventative maintenance (PM), system maintenance, or routine monitoring of existing plant digital systems and components, except during times of extreme plant emergencies or other periods of critical need, as determined by management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. System Upgrades & Integration
a. Assist in digital updates and modifications using 10 CFR 50.59 guidelines as well as industry, company, and site-specific standards and procedures
b. Collaborate with engineering team(s) to integrate new digital technologies and ensure compatibility with existing plant systems
c. Collaborate with the assigned project team(s) to determine priorities and project requirements to ensure that identified digital equipment will work satisfactorily for the intended project need
d. Collaborate with Digital Process Systems (DPS) personnel to ensure that all industry, company, and site-specific standards and procedures are adhered to before, during, and after installation of digital systems or components
e. Act as the Nuclear Projects group SME for DPS support associated with Nuclear Projects modifications and upgrades
f. Perform Cyber and DPS reviews for Engineering Change (EC) development
g. Provide inputs to budgets and long- range plans
h. Completes non-routine technical projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces
i. Executes work orders (WOs) and work requests (WRs) through established work management system
2. Cybersecurity & Compliance
a. Assist with implementation and verification of cybersecurity controls for critical digital assets (CDAs) in accordance with regulatory, company, and site-specific cybersecurity standards and procedures
b. Assist with assessments and walkdowns to validate compliance with industry, company, and site-specific cybersecurity standards
c. Assist with cybersecurity assessments and required presentations of assessments associated with new and upgraded digital systems and components
Required Skills & Competencies:
1. Technical Expertise
a. Knowledge of digital instrumentation and control systems, networking, and cybersecurity principles.
b. Familiarity with PI systems, ERDS interfaces, and digital reliability analysis methodologies.
c. Competent in the use of tools and techniques to physically and logically harden CDAs and networks to reduce vulnerabilities to cyber attack
d. Previous Industrial work experience with Plant Monitoring System, Plant Security Computer, and Cyber Security Defensive Architecture
e. Ability the read Plant Drawings (Control Wiring Diagrams, One-line diagrams, Logic Diagrams, schematics)
f. Demonstrated knowledge of computer networks (Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP/IP, switches, routers, firewalls, etc.)
g. Demonstrate working knowledge of operating systems such as Windows 10, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2019, 2022, and Linux
h. (Preferred, not required) Duke-specific and/or RNP-specific DPS standards and procedures familiarity and/or experience
2. Safety & Regulatory Compliance
a. Strong understanding of NRC regulations, cybersecurity frameworks, and nuclear safety protocols.
b. Analytical & Problem-Solving
c. Ability to diagnose complex system issues and implement corrective actions promptly.
d. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and interpreting system performance data.
e. Must be able to obtain and maintain RNP unescorted access at all times
f. Ability to determine the safety, security, or emergency planning function of a digital subcomponent in a complex system
g. (Preferred, not required) Duke-specific and/or RNP-specific cybersecurity standards and procedures familiarity and/or experience

c. Occasional work during nights and weekends or extended workdays may be necessary to support nuclear regulatory compliance, unit outages, or emergent equipment issues callouts.

4. Education
a. High School Diploma
b. (Preferred, not required) Associate"s or Bachelor"s in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or related technical discipline
5. Experience
a. 5+ years" experience in DPS/Cyber-related position within a US Commercial Nuclear Plant
b. (Preferred, not required) 5+ years" experience in DPS/Cyber-related position within a US Commercial Nuclear Plant supporting projects/modifications group(s) and design engineering.
