Inova Fairfax Medical Campus and Inova Alexandria Hospital is looking for a dedicated Breast Surgeon to join our Breast Surgery and Cancer Programs. This role will be full-time. Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible.

The Inova Schar Cancer Institute is a state-of-the-art cancer center in the Washington, DC metro area designed to bring healing and hope to every patient. Research, and especially clinical research, is central to what we do, and physicians have the support they need to pursue clinical and outcomes research. We are a main member in good standing of the NCI Alliance clinical trial group. Education is also a central tenet of our program. We have our own fellowships in breast surgery as well as hematology/oncology, and we have residency programs in e, Surgery (30 total), Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurosurgery, and Pediatrics at our main hospital, Inova Fairfax Hospital. We also have an academic affiliation with the University of Virginia in which one-third of their medical students spend their entire clinical years with us at Inova. If faculty are involved in medical student education they can earn an academic appointment with UVA.

Breast Surgeon Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive breast surgical care across Inova Schar Cancer Institute (ISCI) sites including Inova Fairfax and Inova Alexandria, delivering services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and surgically manage benign and malignant breast disease, including performance of breast and axillary procedures in accordance with evidence-based standards.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary oncology team (medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, plastic surgery, and genetics) to support coordinated patient-centered care.

  • Maintain high standards of clinical quality and patient safety, promptly reporting quality-of-care concerns and participating in performance improvement initiatives.

  • Provide supervision and clinical leadership for non-physician providers as assigned and participate in call coverage to ensure continuity of care for breast surgery patients.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited institution. Board eligible or board certified in Breast Surgery.

  • Experience: successful completion of surgical residency program. Completion of a breast surgery or surgical oncology fellowship
  • Licensure: Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia.

  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start, ACLS.

  • Payer Credentialing: Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and Ability to enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor

  • Medical Staff Credentialing: Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services
