Under supervision of a Deputy General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice to management with regard to various areas of assigned specialization. The Associate General Counsel has clear authority in the specialized area to act for the company. The Associate General Counsel develops and maintains internal relationships and provides coordination with outside counsel when necessary. The Associate General Counsel shall consult with a Deputy General Counsel when issues are significant with regard to impact on the company. Responsibilities:
  • Provides advice to management on legal issues relating to insurance regulatory law for the Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement lines of business.
  • Supports the Sales and Broker Operations teams regarding Medicare regulations specific to the Government Programs lines of business.
  • Handles legal inquiries from within the company. Responds with legal opinion as appropriate.
  • Serves on various internal committees as both participant and counsel.
  • Compliance Statement: Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the laws, regulations and policies that pertain to the organizational unit's business and conforms with these laws, regulations and policies in carrying out the accountabilities of the job.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor degree is required.

  • Requires two years of experience in the practice of law in a corporate legal department or a full service law firm with an emphasis in litigation and/or insurance regulatory law.

Special Licenses and Certifications:
  • Active NJ Bar Admission or eligibility to obtain limited license for in-house counsel required.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Requires strong writing skills.

  • Requires strong verbal communication skills

  • Requires ability to relate effectively with all levels of personnel within the company.

Travel:
  • Occasional Travel to vendor meetings, conferences and other Horizon facilities.

Horizon BCBSNJ employees must live in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut or Delaware

Salary Range:

$138,000 - $188,370

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. This range has been created in good faith based on information known to Horizon at the time of posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case.
