Job Description

MPI Exeter is seeking an experienced Machine Operator - Material Handler to join our machining operation. This position plays a key role in preparing materials used in the manufacturing of water gates and requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.

Position Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for accurately reading blueprints, measuring materials, drilling, grinding, and performing general cleaning and preparation work. This work supports the fabrication process and ensures all products meet quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and measurement specifications.
  • Perform drilling, grinding, and material preparation.
  • Clean and organize materials used for watergate fabrication.
  • Required to put away all incoming materials in their proper location and is responsible for counting materials daily.
  • Responsible for operating a press break to form materials to their specified dimensions.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.
  • Support production flow by assisting with other dutiesas needed.
Qualifications

Safety

  • Ensure personal safety and the safety of team members.
  • Assist supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wear required PPE including fall protection, respiratory, hearing, foot, hand, head, and eye protection.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Promote the McWane Way principles.
  • Follow all MPI Safety Management Program procedures and report deviations.

Fabrication & Material Handling

  • Perform drilling, grinding, and cleaning of CNC plasma-cut materials.
  • Move materials using a forklift or assist devices.
  • Use a tape measure accurately to 1/16-inch.
  • Read drawings to determine cut lengths.
  • Prefer experience with iron worker, horizontal bandsaw, and shear.
  • Place finished product appropriately and notify Quality Control.
  • Regular full-time attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

Work Habits & Skills

  • Demonstrate basic math skills and ability to read tape measures and micrometers.
  • Understand machinery processes.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Work as a team player and assist across machines.
  • Obtaincertification for forklift operation.
  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Stand, walk, and use hands to handle tools and materials.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Occasionally reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Lift 10 lbs regularly, 25 lbs frequently, 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Wear task-appropriate PPE.
  • Work in dust, fumes, and loud environments.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of industrial tools and basic maintenance.
  • Vision requirements: close, peripheral, depth perception, color distinction, focus adjustment.

Hourly Pay Range: $22.01 - $23.11
