Job Summary: The rail manager is responsible for the overall management of internal rail operations. This includes coordinating the internal movement of trains, securing loaded material, managing staff, developing work processes and procedures, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and overseeing maintenance activities. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to effectively manage a complex transportation system. Responsibilities: 1. Operations Management: Coordinate the scheduling and movement of trains to optimize efficiency and meet our customers' demands. 2. Rail car securing: Oversee the rail car securing processes to ensure optimization, and customer satisfaction. 3. Staff Supervision: Manage a team of rail strappers, rail operators, and weigh masters. Provide leadership, training, and support to ensure performance targets are met. 4. Safety Compliance: Enforce housekeeping along with safety regulations and protocols to prevent accidents and/or personal injuries. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections. Also know and enforce AAR figure 14 Rules and guidelines. 5. Maintenance Oversight: Oversee the maintenance of rail infrastructure, including tracks, signals, and rolling stock. Schedule routine inspections and repairs to minimize downtime and ensure reliability. 6. Budget Management: Develop and manage budgets for operating expenses, capital investments, and maintenance projects. Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities. 7. Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about industry standards and best practices. 8. Customer Relations: Address customer inquiries, complaints, and service issues in a timely and professional manner. Work to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty. 9. Strategic Planning: Participate in long-term planning and decision-making to improve the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of rail operations. Identify opportunities for expansion or improvement. 10. Reporting: Prepare regular reports on key performance metrics, such as on-time performance, safety incidents, and maintenance activities. Present findings to management and stakeholders. Qualifications: * 10 years of experience in rail operations, preferably in management or supervisory role. * Knowledge of railroad operations, safety regulations, and industry best practices. * Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. * Ability to prioritize tasks, make decisions under pressure, and solve problems creatively. * Proficiency in computer software and systems used in rail management, such as scheduling software and maintenance tracking systems. * Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
