Automotive Mechanic (Mechanic I) Transportation Department $63,631 - $74,347 There is a vacancy for an Automotive Mechanic (Mechanic I) in the Transportation Department. This is a 12-month, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day position. This is skilled work involving responsibility for efficient and workmanlike performance of a variety of automotive repair tasks. Instructions are received regarding the tasks to be performed. Does related work as required. Typical work activities include, but are not limited to, general repairs on diesel and gasoline motor equipment such as trucks, buses, tractors, snow plows, pumps and generators; repair ignition and electrical systems; operates machine shop equipment including lathes, drill presses and other metal working machines to make and repair parts for automotive equipment; assembles and times engines; repairs or overhauls brakes systems, differentials, transmissions and front and rear axles; may operate electric or acetylene welding and cutting equipment; operates various types of motor equipment in connection with repair work. May be required to operate a bus, mobile unit, snow plows or other motor driven equipment. Required knowledge, skills and abilities include: good knowledge of standard automotive repair methods and/or the terminology, tools and safety precautions of the trade; demonstrated ability to make repairs to automotive equipment; ability to work from plans and specifications; ability to understand written and oral directions; hand/eye coordination; manual dexterity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Minimum qualifications at time of appointment are Two (2) years of experience involving automotive repair or automotive maintenance. Special Requirement: May be required to possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License in a class appropriate to the requirements of the Appointing Authority.
