Position Overview




Primary Purpose of Position
Work as Laboratory Research Technician. Culture microbial cultures in the lab, extract and process DNA samples, produce substrate for mushroom cultivation and work with PI and Research Specialist on truffle cultivation plots at the farm.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit

Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies


Required Competency Laboratory/Subject Care
Duties
Culture microbial cultures in the laboratory, extract and process DNA samples.

Assist PI with inoculation, out-planting and monitoring of truffle trees in the lab, greenhouse and flied plots.


Required Competency Knowledge - Technical
Duties
Produce substrate for mushroom cultivation and work with PI and Research specialist on truffle cultivation plots at the farm.

Ensure isolation and deposition of cultures from the wild into MBFBL culture bank.

Receive from and send out cultures to collaborators or other agencies working with cultures of economically important fungi strains.

Maintain the culture bank in a good condition that prevents deaths of the cultures.

Maintain an up to date database of the cultures and shall be responsible for retrieving any culture needed for in research.


Required Competency Operations - Research Support
Duties
Maintain inventory for the lab, culture collection maintenance, ordering and staying in contact with vendors, farmers and clients of the lab.

Help with laboratory training for students.
