Description This is a professional position responsible for the college’s academic advising program and career services. This position oversees and assists in the planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, budgeting, and academic advisement for students. An employee in a position allocated to this class has a significant role in the preparation and administration of budgets and payroll. This employee must perform duties that include exercising independent judgment in creating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures that have a significant impact on academic advising and career services.

- Develops short-term and long-range goals, objectives, priorities, and recommendations for the academic advising and career services offices.
- Develops, maintains, interprets, and executes administrative procedures and practices. This includes developing and maintaining manuals regarding policies, procedures, rules, and standards for advising and career services.
- Ensures operational excellence by tracking, measuring, and reporting on departmental goals and outcomes.
- Provides leadership for career and academic advising while ensuring a shared vision, expectations and goals, and measurable productivity standards to meet the needs of students and improve retention efforts
- Develops and oversees the Academic Advising and Career Services budgets.
Monitors expenditures in the assigned budget, and holds self and staff accountable for financial practices that promote sound fiscal management.
- Leads, reviews, and manages the work of academic advisors reporting directly to you. Monitor and evaluate the performance of each team member.
- Supervises and evaluates the academic advising and career services programs, as well as, personnel necessary for efficient operation.
- Organizes and hosts Career Day and Transfer Day events with community, universities, and college personnel each year.
- Acts as the liaison with all five school districts, out-of-district schools, and students, on advising/graduation opportunities.
- Acts as the liaison between Student Affairs and Academic Programs concerning course needs scheduling.
- Responsible for maintaining compliance with Florida state statute changes that impact advising.
- Designs and delivers group presentations and orientations, faculty, and community groups and serves as a liaison between Advising, Career Services, and the FGC campus community.
- Assists students in assessing, planning, and implementing their immediate and long-range goals, and advising them regarding current and future employment trends, career exploration, and goal setting strategies.
- Provides outreach and marketing of Career Services to specialized on-campus programs, academic departments, and the campus community as a whole.
- Provides content for the Academic Advising and Career Services webpages and social networks. Ensures content remains fresh and up-to-date on all platforms.
- Participates in job and internship fairs as invited.
- Manages the assignment and student load for the academic advising office.
- Monitor record-keeping of students in EAB Navigate and the Banner student information system.
- Mentoring team members to develop goal-setting plans, share knowledge and experiences.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: Knowledge of management procedures for budgeting and record keeping. Knowledge of college policies and procedures related to dual enrollment and career services. Skill in interpersonal relationships. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups. Ability to supervise other employees. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision. Knowledge of human growth and development theory; career counseling and advising theory; multicultural differences and needs; differences in personalities and learning styles and interpretation of achievement tests. Ability to use a computer for work – Microsoft Word, Excel, and programs necessary for advising and tracking students. Ability to work well with others in a team approach; to work with faculty and outside community leaders; and to plan, organize, and attend to details on all paperwork.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor Degree in Student Development, Counseling, Psychology, Education, or related fields, plus two years experience in advising, counseling, teaching, or related area. Experience with community college or high schools students, academic advising, and career counseling. Computer literate. Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), state statutes, and rules of higher education. Master’s degree preferred.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with community college or high school students, academic advisement, and career counseling. Experience with Florida’s state rules and regulations. Experience using EAB Navigate and Banner. Knowledge of strategic advising concepts and programs including the Guided Pathways model. Master’s degree in Student Development, Counseling, Psychology, Education, or related fields.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without a hearing aid). Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Works inside in an office/classroom environment. Travel to local area for recruitment and information sharing required.
