Description

The Area Director of Engineering oversees Engineering operations across multiple properties by leading preventive maintenance programs, monitoring life safety systems and utilities, and ensuring hotel equipment and facilities are maintained in compliance with all corporate/franchise standards and applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations. This role provides leadership in team oversight, service request prioritization, budget management, vendor coordination, and department administration to help maintain safe, efficient, and well-maintained environments for guests and associates across the portfolio.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:




  1. Oversee the day-to-day Engineering operations across multiple properties, including team leadership, training, coaching, performance management, interviewing, hiring recommendations, and disciplinary support as appropriate.



  2. Implement, manage, and monitor property and equipment preventive maintenance programs across assigned hotels in compliance with corporate/franchise standards and all applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations.



  3. Prioritize service requests and ensure work is scheduled, completed, and monitored efficiently to support guest satisfaction, safety, and operational continuity.



  4. Monitor, test, and inspect life safety systems and utilities to ensure compliance and operational readiness across all assigned properties.



  5. Review utility consumption and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance system performance.



  6. Review purchase requests and oversee Engineering expenses and budgets across assigned properties to support financial goals and cost control.



  7. Partner with hotel leadership and department teams to ensure Engineering operations support overall property performance, guest satisfaction, and asset protection.



  8. Assist with vendor management, project coordination, and capital improvement initiatives to ensure quality, compliance, and timely completion.



  9. Prepare and maintain schedules, logs, records, compliance documentation, and other operational reports to support consistency, minimize liabilities, and maintain organized department operations.



  10. Comply with attendance standards and maintain regular availability based on business needs, including support during emergencies or operational disruptions.



  11. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.




REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Previous experience in hotel Engineering leadership required, with multi-property oversight preferred. Previous experience in a unionized environment preferred. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Self-motivated with a professional and even-tempered demeanor. Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times. Must communicate effectively with guests, associates, and leadership teams. Must be willing to pitch in and support operational needs as necessary and be a strong team player. Must be able to identify potential safety hazards and security concerns throughout the hotel and take appropriate action. Must be skilled in multiple trades, including HVAC, electrical, carpentry, drywall repair, painting, plumbing, roofing, and landscaping. Must be able to troubleshoot and repair routine mechanical and electrical issues in hotel systems and equipment. Must be able to lead preventive maintenance efforts, support capital projects, and respond promptly to maintenance-related concerns and emergencies.
