The ASPIRE Office in the Honors College at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Program Coordinator.

About the Opportunity

The ASPIRE Program Coordinator assists the Director with supporting students who are pursing nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships, as well as supporting students who are applying to graduate or professional school. This position will serve as a campus pre-law advisor and coordinate the Pre-Law Prep Program. This position will also assist in the coordination of the Peace Corps Prep Program.

What You'll Do

  • Assist the Director with supporting and advising students who are pursuing nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships
  • Recruit and advise students applying for prestigious, nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships through conducting workshops and information sessions, organizing and distributing scholarship information, convening and coordinating with faculty committees, and managing logistical aspects of application processes.
  • Assist students who are preparing scholarship and fellowship applications. This includes meeting with students to discuss various scholarships and fellowships, providing feedback on essay and personal statements (when appropriate), and organizing and participating in mock interviews.
  • Draft letters of endorsement and scholarship evaluations
  • Develop initiatives to recruit and support underserved students.
  • Represent (along with the ASPIRE Director) the ASPIRE Office to internal and external constituencies.
  • Serve on college/university committees as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with units inside WVU, especially the Office of Undergraduate Research, the Pre-Health Professional Development Office, the Honors Foundation Program, the Honors in Action Program, and academic departments.
  • Maintain records and provide as needed to students, faculty, departments, and administrators.
  • Maintain website and social media accounts for the ASPIRE Office.
  • Manage ASPIRE email account, including promptly replying to certain emails and forwarding others to the Director as appropriate.
  • Assist Director with the Peace Corps Prep Program, including assisting in planning service-learning activities for members
  • ASPIRE Program Coordinator will serve as a campus pre-law advisor, providing support and guidance to current students and alumni who are pursuing law school as well as coordinate the Pre-Law Prep Program, in partnership with the WVU College of Law.
  • Identify students applying for law school
  • Provide guidance on the law school application process
  • Assist students in preparing for entrance exams (LSAT, GRE) and personal statement and resume writing
  • Work with appropriate administrators, faculty, and staff at the WVU College of Law to plan and execute Pre-Law Prep programming
  • Maintain Pre-Law Prep Program records
  • Other duties as assigned

Expected annual salary is 50-55K.

Qualifications
  • Master's level degree.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience advising or teaching undergraduate students
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) preferred
  • Foreign language skills or significant experience working with diverse populations
  • Graduate degree in a field that included a significant research project, i.e. thesis or dissertation
