Milton CAT is seeking an experienced Fabricator to work in our Syracuse, NY location. The Fabricator is responsible for a wide range of advanced equipment fabrication and welding process as well as assisting with general equipment repairs and component installations as needed.

Pay Rate: Minimum starting wage of $30.71 - $35.52/hour based on location and experience. This is a union position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all welding processes to fabricate and repair equipment, including but not limited to Stick, MIG, Dual Shield/Flux Core Wire, Tin ware repair welding.
  • Perform fabrications/repairs on various Caterpillar equipment and attachments.
  • Complete layout from prints and drawings. In absence of prints or patterns the candidate must have the ability to create prints or patterns.
  • Line bore various components with remote and stationary equipment.
  • Perform major repairs on sticks and booms including removal and installation.
  • Determine appropriate welding process based on repair type.
  • Set up equipment properly according to the function and application.
  • Understand properties of various types of steel and other welding metals (including but not limited to hardness; brittleness; elongation; tensile, etc.) and can determine the best type for the repair.
  • Assists with general equipment repairs and component or attachment installation, as needed, including disassembling, assembling, removing and installing machine components.
  • Actively cares and advocates safety at Milton CAT, adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.

  • High school diploma or (GED) equivalent. Associates degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Previous welding and machining experience a plus but not necessary.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, and schematics and have the ability to fabricate without prints.
  • Ability to operate various pieces of equipment to ensure repair results in functioning machine.
  • Able to lift more than 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Proficient in the use of a computer and related software (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work overtime is required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic, fast paced service environment.
