Job Description

General Summary

Vertex is seeking a talented leader to join our US Pain Field Medical team to support our journey to bring transformative medicines to patients. The Medical Strategy and Operations Manager is a critical medical leader tasked with preparing plans and execute tactics required for optimal field medical team performance.

This role entails collaborating with members and leaders of field-facing teams and internal stakeholders to maximize field medical opportunities while meeting assigned performance goals.

This individual will focus on designing and supporting execution of field medical plans.

The role involves close collaboration with medical home office strategy, Medical Operations, Medical Information, Technology and Innovation (MITI), and other key stakeholders to develop and execute strategies within the US Pain Field Medical team.

In alignment with regional and national field directors, this position will support a diverse set of tactics including generation and updates of thought leader lists, field coverage plans for regional conferences, plans for field visits of home office personnel and enterprise senior leaders, partnering with home medical teams to ensure timely availability of field facing materials and the respective trainings to MSLs, change manager leader supporting field medical directors to implement capability upscaling efforts and technologies, supporting national director and other medical leaders to generate reports of field performance and HCP insights. This is a Hybrid role based in Boston.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, execution, and strategic initiatives for the US field medical team
  • Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of the field medical planning process supporting field leadership to achieve targeted goals and KPIs
  • In alignment with regional and national field directors, generate and update thought leader lists, field coverage plans for regional conferences, plans for field visits of home office personnel and enterprise senior leaders

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare landscape, including health systems and payors
  • Highly collaborative and able to influence effectively diverse stakeholders towards goals
  • Analytical mindset, with ability to make strategic recommendations
  • Ability to understand and explain scientific concepts and study results within the therapeutic space of focus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to access and influence various functional areas.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in MS Office (particularly PowerPoint & MS Teams), Outlook, and database applications.

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced biomedical degree preferred
  • 1-3 yrs of pharmaceutical experience required

Pay Range:

$124,000 - $187,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
