About This Role
The Assistant Director will serve as a dedicated Career Engagement Consultant for the College of Arts and Sciences. This position integrates career education directly into the academic experience to promote transformative career development across the student lifecycle. As a leader within the university's career success ecosystem, the Assistant Director empowers students through curriculum integration, robust industry partnerships, and technology-driven solutions. This role moves away from high-volume transactional advising to focus on architecting a unified student journey that connects academic planning, work-integrated learning, and clear career outcomes upholding K-State's R1 public land-grant mission.
- Academic Integration & Curriculum Design: Serve as an embedded liaison for the College of Arts and Sciences, collaboration with faculty and academic stakeholders to infuse career development into the curriculum. Engage with college leadership regularly and participate in college success communities as appropriate. Design and facilitate customized, credit bearing course material, large group workshops, and classroom presentations. Utilize Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas) to build scalable online career content and assignments.
- Program & Event Management: Design, manage, and implement scalable career education programs and events, including micro-credentialing or badge furthering programs to validate student skills. Measure program efficacy and use outcomes-based data (e.g., NACE knowledge rates, KPIs) for continuous improvement.
- Employer & Industry Relations: Build and manage strategic partnerships with external constituents relevant to Arts and Sciences pathways. Work with partners to develop structured work-integrated learning (internships, co-ops) and networking opportunities. Liaise with employers to gain insight into labor market trends and future-of-work competencies.
- Strategic Career Coaching: Provide high-level, specialized career coaching for students with complex career design needs or those in specialized pipelines. Focus on "transformational" coaching, utilizing assessments like CliftonStrengths to assist students in navigating career transitions and professional branding.
- Supervision & Team Leadership: Supervise, evaluate, and direct the work of a Program Assistant and student employees. Manage workflow, provide professional development, and ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Other duties as assigned: Perform other related duties as assigned by management to support the department and university mission.

Worksite Description
This position is On-site. All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and seven years of relevant experience in higher education, program management, or curriculum development. Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education.
Preferred Qualifications: * Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field. * Experience in curriculum design, learning outcome assessment, and evidence-based decision making. * Experience supervising staff or directing the work of student employees. * Educational background in/knowledge of Arts and Sciences. * Knowledge of and experience applying career development theory and NACE career competencies. * Proficiency in career management platforms (Handshake) and learning management systems (Canvas).
