About This Role
The Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University invites applications for a part-time, term, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Clinical Skills and Junior Surgery Laboratory and is annually renewable. Candidates must hold a DVM degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited institution. Internship training or two years of experience in private veterinary practice is preferred. The successful candidate will join a well-supported Clinical Skills and Junior Surgery team and will work collaboratively with faculty and staff in both the clinical skills, small animal surgery, livestock, and equine surgery sections to further the training and assessment of veterinary students. Specific duties in the fall semester small animal section include preparing and facilitating laboratory exercises, supervising and assessing student performance with regards to physical exams, blood draws, clinical assessment of patient problems, evaluation of students' medical record keeping including patient SOAPs and discharge instructions, and overall patient care. Throughout the 8 weeks of the fall semester when live small animal surgeries are occurring, it is expected that email communication and review of discharge instructions will be required after hours (evenings Monday - Thursday) as needed. This position may also include direct supervision of students' performing anesthesia, ovariohysterectomies, and castrations in the laboratory. Occasional need for providing transport with a college vehicle (truck and trailer) of shelter animals to and from the college may also occur.
