Job Description

Join our 8-person in-house Capital Projects team (CPO) reporting directly to MIT LL Senior Leadership and play a pivotal role in transforming a nationally recognized research campus. "The Capital Projects Office leads MIT LL's A/E design and construction management initiatives, as well as Real Estate Leases and tenant fit-out projects. We are seeking an Architectural & Engineering Project Manager to help lead the planning and design of complex research and laboratory buildings that will define the next generation of our campus.



CPO is leading an ambitious 40-year Master Plan to replace aging buildings and infrastructure with a modern, high-performance campus. This long-term initiative will grow the campus from 1.7M GSF to 2.9M GSF, introduce advanced and highly specialized facilities found nowhere else, strengthen secure environments, and modernize utilities for resilience, flexibility, and energy efficiency.



This role reports to the Head of A/E Design within the Capital Projects Office. Working in a highly collaborative environment, you'll work closely with architects, engineers, consultants, researchers, facilities, security, EH&S, teams, and technical MIT-LL Division Leadership to deliver technically complex, future-focused projects from early visioning through pre-construction.

  • Design Leader: Experienced in overseeing design activities, ensuring high-quality deliverables, and resolving technical challenges.
  • Quality-Focused Professional: Detail-oriented in reviewing drawings, models, and specifications, with a strong commitment to documentation and standards.
  • Technically Proficient: Comfortable managing the use digital tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Tableau, PowerBI, and spreadsheets to manage data and workflows, and support process improvement.

What You'll Do

* Campus Planning:



  • Prepare planning scenarios, analyses, and executive-level materials to drive Senior Leadership decision making.
  • Support the ongoing evolution of the Campus Master Plan through scenario planning, programming studies, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Maintain and manage campus planning data to support reporting, analysis, and informed decision-making.
  • Develop building sequencing strategies, phasing diagrams, and clearly communicate project dependencies.
  • Evaluate the impact of scope and program changes across current and future projects in a dynamic environment.



* Design and Technical Management:



  • Build strong relationships with Division Leadership, researchers, laboratory technicians, security, facilities engineers, and operations staff to gather standards and requirements.
  • Lead architects, engineers, and specialty consultants in developing and capturing program requirements, campus standards, and operational criteria.
  • Lead and facilitate design meetings, manage deliverable reviews, and ensure alignment with schedule, scope, and quality expectations.
  • Lead efforts of technical reviews of drawings, models, and specifications at each design milestone.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and uphold high performance and quality standards.
  • Utilize design and project management tools to manage data, improve workflows, and support efficient decision-making.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact, providing clear communication and regular updates to internal teams and various leadership levels.
  • Prepare project status reports, including schedule and budget updates.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture or equivalent planning experience.
    Massachusetts Architecture License (or in process) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 10+ years of experience of A / E teams and Master Planning, preferably in technically complex laboratory, research, or academic/institutional environments.
  • Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of architectural and engineering building systems.
  • Software Skills:

    • AutoCAD and Revit required
    • Microsoft Project experience
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Experience with Tableau or PowerBI desired
    • Experience with Bluebeam and Procore preferred

    • Ability to work independently with discretion and confidentiality

  • Other Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Hiring Range: $117,600- $156,600
