Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant - Medical Group - Gastroenterologists

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Advanced Practice Provider works under the general supervision of the Practice Supervisor and medical supervision of the physician(s) to provide excellent medical care completing the duties and responsibilities of the position while complying with HIPAA and CVPH confidentiality policies. They are responsible to provide health care services as licensed professionals working within their defined scope of practice. This position requires regular use of independent judgment. The Gastroenterology Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner shall assist and supplement the Gastroenterologist Physician staff by rounding on inpatients to assess, diagnose, and treat patients as enabled by their training and experience under the supervision and support of the Gastroenterologist Physician as needed. These responsibilities will include caring for Gastroenterology inpatients, responding to calls from the nursing staff, assessing changes in condition, responding to changes in condition, ordering tests and images, interpreting tests and images, and ordering medications. The Gastroenterology Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will also prepare discharges of patients and will prepare appropriate prescriptions, prepare discharge summaries, arrange follow up appointments and educate patients and families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Current license as a Registered Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in New York State
2. Current or eligible for NYS DEA license
3. Understanding and commitment to CVPH core values of teamwork, confidentiality and quality care
4. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
5. Expertise in clearly communicating medical information to professional practitioners and general public
6. Knowledge of OSHA standards/regulations
7. Ability to react calmly and effectively at all times including emergency situations
8. Legible handwriting
9. Above average spelling and memory skills
10. Develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, patients and external customers
11. Maintain confidentiality and support the goals and objectives of CVPH
12. Utilize available business technology to perform assigned duties
13. Ability to make appropriate decisions with a minimum amount of supervisory direction
14. Desire to remain current on emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues and approaches as they relate to gastroenterology.
15. Ability to obtain appropriate privileges at CVPH Medical Center
16. Ability to obtain c redentialing by third party payers to enable third party billing.
17. AHA-ASLS certification is required within 6 months of hire or current non-AHA-BLS card will be honored up to date of renewal.
18. Must have ability to work in team environment.
19. Prior PA/NP Gastroenterology experience or training preferred.
20. Prescription privileges preferred.
