THE POSITION

Are you interested in becoming a key member of the department's Communications Office press team? If so, join us as Deputy Communications Director 2, where you will provide vital support to the Press Secretary and Communications Director regarding management of media relations and internal communications, while advancing the department's goals. In this position you will have the opportunity to ensure timely, accurate, and effective messaging to both external audiences and department staff. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As Deputy Communications Director 2, you will be responsible for supporting the Communications Director and Press Secretary by receiving, monitoring, and tracking media inquiries. Work involves gathering and verifying information as well as drafting detailed responses that align with department priorities and messaging. In the absence of the Press Secretary or Communications Director, you will serve as acting Press Secretary by reviewing and editing media materials and providing strategic counsel. In collaboration with agency partners and statewide stakeholders, this position develops and coordinates public information campaigns and messaging to promote department programs and administration initiatives and leads planning, coordination, and execution of media events. You will have the opportunity to work closely with digital media staff, promote department services and support public outreach efforts by developing, editing, and tracking publications and informational materials.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to two days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in preparing public relations promotion through all media; and a bachelor's degree with major course work in journalism, communications, English, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • You must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • You must show initiative and problem-solving skills.
