POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Bike Mechanic oversees the maintenance, repair, and safety standards of the entire rental bike fleet. This role ensures that all procedures are followed, completed with consistent and high-quality work, and maintains excellent guest service. The Lead Mechanic is the primary technical expert in the shop and provides instruction, mentoring, and support to technicians of all levels. This position plays a critical role in maintaining fleet reliability and guest safety. This is a full-time seasonal position, compensated between $20.00 - $23.00/hour, based on experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Perform bike repairs, including (but not limited to) suspension service, drivetrain service, brake bleeds, wheel truing, suspension setup, and parts replacement.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise Bike Technicians to ensure consistent workmanship and adherence to safety standards.
  • Oversee pre/post rental inspection to maintain fleet reliability and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with the Rental Supervisor and Bike Park Manager on inventory and ordering parts/supplies.
  • Maintain detailed documentation for fleet maintenance, damage reports, and parts usage.
  • Ensure all guest interactions reflect friendly professionalism and clear communication about repair needs, timelines, and costs.
  • Assist with the assembly, inspection, and tuning of new bikes and equipment.
  • Monitor tool condition, cleanliness, and safety of the workshop area.
  • Support rental operations during peak periods, including guest fittings and protective equipment recommendations.
  • Uphold and enforce all rental policies and safety protocols.
  • Be prepared to assist in other aspects of resort operation as dictated by business levels
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • Minimum 3+ years of professional bike shop experience
  • Strong background in mountain bike systems (suspension, hydraulic brakes, drivetrains)
  • High-level mechanical proficiency
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication with staff and guests
  • Knowledge of Stratton Mountain trail systems preferred


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Standing for prolonged periods; lifting 50+ lbs
  • Work involves fine motor tasks and precision tools
  • Required to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts
