The mission of University Development within the Division of University Advancement at NC State is to raise philanthropic support for university goals and priorities that benefit our students, faculty, this campus and ultimately, the state of North Carolina. The department includes the offices of Central Major Gifts, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Gift Planning and Prospect Development.
The Office of Prospect Development is a subunit of University Development and is charged with conducting various research-related and moves-management activities to assist the university's advancement and development staff secure the private funding necessary to continue the university's development and growth. Its functions primarily support the part of UA's mission related to raising money from private sources, managing the collection of private gifts for the university, and managing an effective alumni and development database and gift system.

Essential Job Duties
NC State seeks an experienced Prospect Strategy Analyst to serve as a key technical and strategic partner within University Development. This role is dedicated to maximizing the efficiency of the fundraising pipeline and delivering data-driven insights that inform campus-wide decision-making.
The Prospect Strategy Analyst focuses on two primary pillars: optimizing donor portfolio management and developing sophisticated reporting solutions to visualize fundraising progress. Reporting to the Director of Prospect Development, this position works synergistically with central and unit-based development personnel to ensure all prospect management efforts align with the university's strategic goals.

1. Pipeline & Data Management (60%)

  • Portfolio & Opportunity Oversight: Actively support and manage donor portfolios, assignments, and solicitation opportunities to ensure a healthy and fluid fundraising pipeline.

  • CRM Automation & Workflow Optimization: Proactively identify and implement ways to leverage the CRM with automated workflows to streamline moves management, gift officer changes, and data requests.


2. Insight-Driven Support & Reporting (40%)

  • Dashboard Design & Delivery: Support the development and maintenance of interactive dashboards and reporting solutions that transform raw data into actionable insights for the entire campus.
  • Data Synthesis: Review, segment, and analyze large data sets to provide clear recommendations for enhancing discovery pools and optimizing portfolio composition.

Other Responsibilities


  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner with the Director and key stakeholders to monitor individual fundraiser portfolios and implement methods to evaluate fundraising metrics.

  • System Integrity: Review and promote the integrity of prospect management data; resolve non-routine data issues in a collaborative manner with Development partners.

  • Technical Communication: Translate complex data and system processes into clear information for internal Advancement departments, providing value-added critical thinking.

  • Confidentiality: Manage highly confidential donor and prospect information with complete discretion and professional judgment.

  • Policy Maintenance: Ensure resources and internal procedure documents are updated to reflect evolving Prospect Development policies.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills, including the ability to show flexibility and adaptability when confronted with competing priorities and interests.
  • Previous Database Management (CRM) experience.
  • Knowledge of software used for fundraising/alumni data and an understanding of information management in a database structure.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to use tools to gather, interpret, organize and present data to PD colleagues.
  • The ability to interact effectively and collegially with varied groups who may have different purposes.
  • Ability to recognize training needs as a result of interaction with Advancement team members, and to share that information with the Assistant Director of Prospect Development. Assist in training as required.
  • Organizational skills to handle several projects simultaneously, accommodate shifting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, with an advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Prospect Research/Prospect Management experience, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Experience with database operations and usage, including CRM and other relational databases.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the values and mission of NC State University, and the goals and principles of the NC State Advancement Team.
  • Previous capital campaign experience.
  • Level 1 competency in the Moves Management domain as defined by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
  • Proficiency in using subscription information services especially those commonly used in Prospect Research
  • Experience in fundraising or fund raising support (preferably higher education fundraising)
  • An understanding of the land grant, research Tier One university environment.
  • Familiarity with NC State University and the Triangle.
