Job Summary
#CA-PS Under the general direction of the Veterinary Hospital Information Systems (VHIS) team manager, and in collaboration with senior members of the VHIS team, contribute as a developer supporting and enhancing the Veterinary Medical and Administrative Computing System (VMACS). The team develops and maintains critical hospital systems and electronic medical records, ensuring responsive, reliable, and efficient solutions to evolving operational needs.
Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications and services that support VMACS functionality. Analyze and work with existing legacy code to understand current system behavior, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement enhancements or new features. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system performance, reliability, and overall user experience across hospital applications. - Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- Extensive experience developing and maintaining enterprise full stack web applications using modern frameworks, RESTful APIs, and front-end technologies such as Vue.js, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience developing and maintaining secure applications, including applying secure coding practices, identifying vulnerabilities, and remediating risks.
- Strong experience working with SQL-based relational databases, including schema design, query optimization, and integration using technologies such as Hibernate or similar ORM tools.
- Experience following the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, development, testing, deployment, and version control using tools such as Git.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently or as part of a team, and learn and apply new technologies effectively.
- Proven ability to collaborate with developers, system administrators, analysts, and stakeholders to gather requirements, communicate technical concepts, and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze legacy code and systems, understand existing business processes, and implement enhancements or modernized solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing and supporting medical, hospital information systems (HIS), electronic medical records (EMR), or laboratory systems, including large, multi-user, mission-critical applications in a 24x7 environment.
- Experience working with or supporting enterprise administrative systems and platforms, such as InterSystems Cache or similar technologies, and integrating with institutional or third-party systems.
- Experience modernizing or maintaining legacy applications, including work with Java-based web frameworks (e.g., Vaadin, GWT) or other web technologies, and developing responsive applications for a variety of platforms.
- Knowledge of software development best practices, including unit and integration testing, structured ticketing/workflow systems, and general project coordination or project management techniques.

Work Environment UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
