Summary



Michigan Technological University is seeking a Business & IT Support Associate for our Michigan Tech Research Institute Department. They will provide general support and administration of MTRI computer networks and systems. Provide computer software development support to research and development programs. Act as initial point of contact for the MTRI IT service desk. Support and maintain MTRI cyber security infrastructure. The position is based at MTRI in Ann Arbor, MI (www.mtri.org).



Responsibilities and Essential Duties



1. Support, maintain, and update computer systems.
2. Troubleshoot and repair computer systems.
3. Initial point of contact for the MTRI service desk.
4. Participate as part of the team charged with making MTRI NIST-800- 171, DFARS Clauses 252.204-7012, 252.204-1709, 252.204.1720, 252.204.1721, and CMMC compliant and maintaining compliance.
5. Continue to improve performance by being aware of new technologies and security products, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.
6. Accept ownership of, and responsibility for responding to, new and varied requests.
7. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
8. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
9. Will act as IT Budget manager in charge of purchasing and tracking all IT related assets.
10. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
11. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
12. Other duties as assigned.



Required Education, Certifications, Licensures



1. Bachelor's Degree or higher in Information Systems or a related technical field
2. Current, non-expired CompTIA Security+ Certification



Required Experience



1. 1-3 years professional experience in computer/network support and administration, including: o Medium scale networks o Large scale NAS arrays
2. Professional experience administrating Linux platforms, including:
o RHEL and Ubuntu
o Installing and compiling software packages
3. Professional experience managing Microsoft Windows 10/11 and Server 2016/2019/2022 in an Active Directory environment.
4. Professional experience in hardening Windows and Linux systems in accordance with NIST SP 800-53 or NIST SP 800-171 using SCAP and STIGs.
5. Hands-on experience maintaining and patching Microsoft Windows and Linux systems.
6. Experience in troubleshooting various computer hardware, including wireless APs, printers, projectors, and phones.
7. Professional experience using Rapid7 and Nessus to find and remediate vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows and Linux systems.
8. Professional Experience with Unified Endpoint Management software particularly Manage Engine Endpoint Central.
9. Professional Experience with CrowdStrike for endpoint protection, detection and response.



Desirable Education and/or Experience



1. A strong knowledge of computer systems, hardware, and software.
2. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
3. Experience using the TeamDynamix ticketing system.
4. Experience in installing, replacing, and troubleshooting server and laptop hardware.



Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities



1. Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance, which requires United States citizenship. May not possess dual citizenship.
2. Excellent written/oral communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical users effectively.
3. Demonstrated organizational ability and attention to detail.
4. Ability to take direction, but work without continuous oversight.
5. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to significant matters related to job duties.
6. Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.
7. Understanding financial, operational, and strategic impacts of technology investments to justify new software/hardware purchases.
8. Ability to conduct a thorough cost-benefit analysis for research staff technical needs.
9. Possess organizational strategy skills that can align Information Technology goals with the institute's long-term mission so technology actually helps the business grow.
10. Can perform gap analysis and help analyze the institute's current operations and future goals to identify the correct technology needed to bridge those gaps



Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities



1. U.S. Department of Defense clearance investigation in process, or active secret-level clearance or higher.
2. Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons with a wide variety of backgrounds and viewpoints
