What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join our dynamic Systems Hardware Management team. As a key member of our Systems Hardware Management team, you will play a vital role in supporting and leading hardware operations for the development and qualification of the Nations most advanced strategic weapon systems.

In this role, you will work in a state-of-the-art facility, collaborating on high-impact projects using cutting-edge tools and technologies. Your efforts will directly contribute to modernizing critical weapon systems and ensuring strategic deterrence for America.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Document and track component and system-level hardware discrepancies based on product definition and applicable engineering design drawings.
  • Apply a structured system approach that models the interactions between all components and ensures integration.
  • Evaluate competing characteristics between system elements and determine/recommend most effective integrated system solution
  • Document and track project risks and collaborate with partners to develop mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance and other stakeholders to determine corrective actions in support of qualification testing.
  • Plan and oversee work activities, including hazard mitigation for mechanical, electrical, chemical, laser, thermal, explosive, and radiological tasks.
  • Prepare and deliver regular status reports to leadership, including additional requested status information on events/occurrences.
  • Collaborate with internal/external customers and those responsible for developing, testing, and implementing the system and its elements to ensure that customer expectations are met.
  • Develops logistic and deployment plans and prepares required training resources.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on corporate processes related to storage, disposition, and logistics.
  • Manage relationships with Project Realization Teams, Weapon Systems Engineers, facility partners, and DOE program stakeholders
  • Employ a consultative approach when providing guidance and make recommendations based on requirements and circumstances.
  • Ensure that plans, processes, and procedures are clearly defined, documented, and regularly updated.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$102,400 - $199,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, plus five (5) years of directly relevant experience or equivalent
  • At least four (4) years of database experience specifically in asset management and inventory control.
  • Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent with the ability to obtain and maintain a SIGMA15 which may require random polygraphs.
Qualifications We Desire

  • Demonstrated experience supporting the Nuclear Weapons Program.
  • Extensive knowledge of fielded nuclear weapons, maintenance operations, and component handling.
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience related to the safe handling and inspection of explosive, radiological, and other hazardous components, including ESD-sensitive electronic components and associated ESD controls and mitigations.
  • Experience in handling and storing explosive systems, including management of Sandia National Laboratories Explosive Inventory System (EIS).
  • Demonstrated product definition experience.
  • Proven success in roles that requires strong concentration, attention to detail, and a forward-thinking mindset, with a commitment to developing innovative solutions to enhance inventory operations processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and to collaborate productively with technologists, engineers, and management.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Greenbelt Certification training.
About Our Team

We are a dynamic team that directly supports and executes R&D lab activities for the B61-12, B61-13, W80-4, W87-1 Life Extension Programs (LEP) and the W80-5 and W93 programs. Our mission encompasses Hardware Management (production planning & hardware operations), assembly/disassembly operations, component fabrication and PRT support and Quality Assurance activities.

The Systems Hardware Management Department is dedicated to utilizing a custom database system designed to enhance lifecycle accountability and tracking of critical hardware essential to nuclear weapon modernization programs. Our comprehensive approach encompasses all phases of hardware management, including receiving, inspection, accountability, storage, kitting, shipping, recovery, and final disposition

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
